Please help between i3 10100 or r3 3100

First I will make it clear that the 3300x is not available here in Greece for maybe forever 🙄

I want to make a PC 1080p gaming and also for adobe premiere pro (light video editing) but without much power consumption

I am between the r3 3100 with b450 motherboard with updated bios or i3 10100 with an h410 (so I can use quick sync)

Side note I already have 16 gb of ddr4 memory at 2666 mhz speed and an RX 480 8gb graphics card

The difference of those CPUs here is around 20€ (Intel more expensive ofc) but the price of the motherboard are almost similar

Which option sounds better?

3100 is better and you can expect B450 boards to offer more features and ports than an H410. As for quicksync, it only helps with export speed and not the actual editing performance which is more important (since you can do something else while it exports, it doesnt matter as much as realtime editing performance)

and if you really want faster exports, Ryzen platform has higher core count older models as well

One thing to note is that new ryzen cpu's should arrive this fall, so potentially wait before you pull the plug on a new purchase and see whether AMD has something better to offer at the same price.

i dont think that b450 will support zen 3
I think B450 support stops at zen 2

correction b450 will support zen 3
my bad

Quicksync is not helpful on the editing ?

an old r5 though has lower clock speed than the 3100 and with more power draw (especially if overclocked)

imo it's a wash unless you plan on upgrading again with a year or two. then go amd.

I'd say 3100, even if only because you'll have more leeway in terms of CPU upgradability with that platform. That's assuming you haven't picked something like a B450-HDV R4.0 which is A320 level trash.

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Im looking for something cheap either way

so i wouldnt go for an expensive b450

I am thinking something like this MSI B450M Pro-M2 Max

You want to use Intel QuickSync, okay, so the AMD chip falls through anyway. Not to mention the basically equal IPC but the Intel CPU being clocked substantially higher and the fact that the AMD chip uses 2 CCXes instead of one like the 3300X, the Intels only disadvantage is the smaller caches and perhaps the weaker upgrade path, but that's basically it. Also, you shouldn't wait for AMD to drop new chips as these ones (3100, 3300X) have basically just been released, much later than the mid-end to high-end lineup. So don't expect new cheap low-end chips with AMDs Zen 3 launch. So in that case, I don't see why I should preach this "AMD is better" mantra like my two preceding posts did. While they have compelling options, I don't see the case here.

Indeed i heard that the 2ccxes hurt latency of the chip

I am  not thinking on upgrading for 2 years give or take

then just roll the dice and get whatever

get the 3100 since it's cheaper even if slightly

in 2 years we'll have better things to choose from

Gigabyte's B450 DS3H and S2H are about the same price and they're passable. The Pro-M2 is horrible.

Export yes, editing no.

Also more multithread performance for rendering. editing cares about single thread more however.

Depends. Most recent batches of B450 boards should come with a recent enough BIOS revision to support Ryzen 3000.

You can check the box for a "Ryzen 3000 Ready" sticker, and if it doesn't have one, you could ask the retailer to flash the latest BIOS for you. Some will likely ask for a small fee to do that though.
