Does replacing your gpu with smaller one cause any trouble?

Kozlik296

So Long story short I have Acer predator G3 605 for 5 years now and I noticed my gpu (gtx 770 2GB) started having fps spikes, so I started looking for new gpus.I found one that is good enough and fits my Budget.the GPU that I found is gtx 1650s and it’s way smaller than the original one

since I’m trying to change gpu and not the whole case I was wondering if the fact that the 1650s is smaller will cause any trouble

Absolutely not. In terms of length it will not be a problem unless u had something like propped up on your old GPU. If there is a problem it would be that the card is physically taller (measured in partial PCIe covers) and could have the backplate be too close to the CPU cooler.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

It wouldn't likely cause any compatibility problems if the dimensions are lower than your original card, although just keep in mind that the mini-versions of GPUs may have less effective coolers than may cause overheating with a high load and/or overclocking settings applied.

Hope this information post was helpful  ?,

But don't buy the 1650S yet, wait at least a month to two months when prices go down and then you could buy a 1660ti for a similar price. Except for that then you will very likely have a bigger CPU bottleneck, but hey maybe depending on the games you play u won't. If you are still experiencing frame stutters after the upgrade, you just need to upgrade to something better than a G3 605, but then you can still keep the 1660ti bc if you buy a used (but better CPU and RAM) pre-built u will definitely see an uplift in performance.

Until then open up your case, pull ur GPU out, and clean the dust out of everything. Put everything back together correctly and u will very likely get slightly higher FPS for the meantime.
