4g will be around for many years to come.  5g won't be available in any meaningful capacity for a long time either.

4g will be around for a while yet.. they are just now starting to turn off 3g services on some providers, not all yet.

4g will obviously work because not everyone can afford a 5g phone also  Cell providers will go broke if they have to spend so much on 5g infrastructure. If they provide only 5g they most probably will be sued.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

Let's put it this way:

AT&T is only shutting off its 3G network in 2022, and it's giving customers lots of advance notice (in fact, it got in hot water recently when the emails didn't directly mention the 2022 time frame).  LTE is much newer, so it'll likely be several years or more before there's even a hint of discontinuing that network.

No matter what your carrier is, LTE won't end until 5G is completely ubiquitous -- you can always connect to it reliably (or at least, as reliably as you can use LTE). And since 5G is still very early, it could be years before that's even an option.

They are going to 5G and 4G only. Older networks are being shut down. Frequencies are being reused for new network last.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
