This forum doesn't have spell check?

I find it quite difficult without spell check, I am so used to it, on every platform everywhere, that it is really difficult when you don't have it.

 

My typing is sloppy because everywhere you go, spell check exists.  Sure, it isn't going to check that I said "bare with me" when I meant "bear with me" but it will catch typing mistakes.

 

Is there a way to activate it on the forum?

What browser are you using? I'm not aware of any modern browsers that don't have a built in spell check, and they should operate correctly in the forum's editor.

I am using Chrome, and that is what I thought, that it works everywhere else.

 

Here is a test this is worng ....nope nothing, not underlined, not highlighted, just there, completely wrong.

Usually its up to your browser to provide that functionality. Personally I don't have any issues with Firefox, not familiar enough with other browsers to comment.

The thing is the browser does provide that functionality, but I was thinking that it can only provide that functionality when it has access to the text that you are typing.

 

If the text editor box is set up in such a way that Chrome actually doesn't know what you are typing, then it can't tell you when you have made a mistake?

 

It might be a setting that I have in place that I don't realise is in place, but I have no idea what it could be.

Your browser or phone will handle spell checking, not the website.

 

For web browser on PC if you right click in the text box there should be an option to enable spell checker. In Firefox it's "Check Spelling" and Chrome it's "Spell Check" > "Use Basic Spell Checker". You can also enable it in the settings menu by ticking "Check spelling as you type".

If you're using a phone go in to your typing settings and enable text correction/auto correct.

It works for me with spell check set to basic (chrome://settings/languages).

Yep, had to go turn it on....wow that was weird, but now I have spell check!

My chrome doesn't spell check if I use English (United States) but works perfectly fine if I use English (United Kingdom) for both language and spell check.

That's because English (United States) isn't a language but a generally acceptable way to misspell things...

Don't worry about it anyway... most of the forum get butt-hurt if you point out spelling mistakes to them. They prefer to live in ignorance.
