New Build switch from intel(couple questions)

I am in the process of gathering parts for my 3rd build. I am by no means a PC builder. Just use common sense and a bunch of research. I do enjoy it though. I have used intel processors on the previous builds. I have gotten into photography since my last build and now realize with lightroom and photoshop and 5 years behind on technology that I need to upgrade. I am going looking into the Ryzen 5 based on research and reviews as a happy medium between budget and performance. Since the last build I have realized that some CPUs have onboard graphics. So I know what I am looking at. 1st question is if I went with say the 3400G would I need to get a GPU still or will the CPU suffice. If not should I stay with that and add a GPU. 2nd question what GPU would be a good fit with this.

the 3400g has great integrated graphics for watching youtube, doing some light editing, but it is not a gaming GPU.

if we compare the vega 11 integrated graphics that come with the 3400g, with the gtx 1060, a tremendously popular last gen gaming videocard, we see that the gtx 1060 is more than 200% more powerful

Thanks for the quick reply. So sounds like I would just be better off going with the 3600x and buying a dedicated graphics card

In my experience the 3600 is just as good.  If you are willing to do some overclocking you can make it better than a stock 3600x.  I made my 2600 better than the stock 2600x.  and if you want to save some money the 2600 is still a great chip.

and to reply to what i used.  I watched this video and did some quick mental math.  

it is vega 11, 1050 ti, 1060, and rx 580 in a comparison.  all builds use the 2400g, and the same other components.

it does fine for 720p medium, just play in windowed or something if u don't wanna buy a gpu.

Integrated video on the 3400g is fine for regular tasks and light gaming/eSports.

 

You may wish to research if Lightroom/Photoshop can leverage frequency or cores, or if it can use graphics cards.

 

Please keep in mind the 3400g is actually only 2nd generation Ryzen, so in terms of single threaded performance, it's not amazing.
