GPU Hot to the Touch, Idle

I have a EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti FTW2. This guy has been getting hotter than before as of late.

While writing this I can hear it quite audibly. I touched it and in 1 second it feels like a toaster hot. Could this be a thermal paste problem.

Temps while gaming are about 75c with high coil whine (what is sounds like) I rarely turn my OC on. Only during demanding games such as RE2 remake.

Possible fix if at all needed?

firstly, don't touch your gpu (or any other component for that matter, when the pc is on)

secondly, 75C is fine while gaming, 85C is when most gpus start throttling.

if it's hot and loud while idle, you're not really idle. look in task manager for processes that use your gpu.

Cant comment on coil whine, but temps are completely normal if not better than normal. GPUS can get into the 80s before anything bad happens. Hot to the touch is very much ok.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Quote or tag me so I can see your response

I discharge my hand before touching id completely fine. During idle is 64C.

Ah, okay making sure cause if RMA is needed I still a little over a year left. So thought it may be a bit hotter than normal. Thank you both.

The goal of the thermal paste is to make the cooler hot, so bad thermal paste would manifest itself by the cooler being too cool, not too hot :)

I assume it has a zero fan option for it to idle that high. Also seems like a setting issue if they dont turn on at that temp. The card should be running in the high 60's low 70's while gaming.

Turn on around 60's only cool if i open msi afterburner with my OC fan curve active. Then it actually cool. Around 40-45c. Gaming always 72c-78c. Depending on game I'd need to use the OC profile or not. Fan curve is set up nice i think.
