Twitch makes US army stop clickbaiting viewers with fake giveaways

This week, a report by The Nation dug deeper, pointing out, among other things, that the channel had a habit of running fake controller giveaways that redirected viewers to a recruitment page. Following widespread scrutiny, Twitch says it’s forced the Army to stop.

Upon learning of this yesterday, Twitch viewers and streamers reacted with disbelief.

“The silence from Twitch on the latest wave of criticism regarding the military using the site to scam kids into sharing personal info speaks volumes,” said streamer Jayson “ManVsGame” Love on Twitter. “Imagine any other channel doing that. Feel free to manipulate your viewers as much as you like, I guess?”

Now Twitch says it’s forced the Army to stop employing this obviously disingenuous tactic.

“Per our Terms of Service, promotions on Twitch must comply with all applicable laws,” a Twitch spokesperson told Kotaku in an email. “This promotion did not comply with our Terms, and we have required them to remove it.”

Wow when I think of the military I think of integrity and honestly and this fits neither of those. I hope whoever thought of using false giveways to get people to go to the recruitment page gets reprimanded and I have no idea how they thought that would help them get recruits. If i was one of those people falsely mislead I would be less likely not more to apply for the army.

We are talking about the US Army here. There are select branches that actually have brilliant and smart people, like the air-force. The rest well, it just collects the high school dropouts and alt-right people. So to say this is a shock isn't true lol

You're right.  Someone is always responsible, but it's possible that that someone is the person who took the action and not the entire organization.

Actually, the Air Force does have nukes. Look up the ICMBs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) the Air Force has in Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota. They're called the Minute Man III.

Your talking about the same government that allowed a spy agency to put equipment directly in to an AT&T data center. You have no way of knowing if this was condoned.

Um last I checked the Air force controls all of our missile silos and we have B52's strapped with H Bombs on them. So yeah, the Air Force controls a majority of the US nuclear stock pile with the Navy controlling the rest. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
