I literally put a sit/stand desk together yesterday from Autonomous.. OMG is it amazing. They are great and im loving it. We had them in the office that I would use all the time when I went in. Fell in love with it and finally got my own here at home for my office at home. Great for work, gaming, VR.. everything.

Maybe try one somewhere first?

I don't like working standing at all, so for me would be worthless.

For me, I work from home 12+ hours so the ability to get up and stretch my legs at times is nice. I also enjoyed gaming standing up tonight for the first time as well. Helps me get more active and not be sitting in my chair behind my desk for 12-18hrs a day between gaming and working.

Do you think the ikea skarsta desk with the crank is also good to save money because motorised ones are quite a bit more expensive

I dont see why not. I would be a little leery of less than quality parts used for the mechanisms to save money. But as long as you dont load your desk up with a ton of stuff and weight it down, I think it should be OK.

as long as its not a super heavy PC like mine that probably weighs 40 lbs. I dont see any spec sheets listed to know what the table is rated for, but I would think if you keep the weight under 50lbs it should be fine most likely.

Whether you want or need a sit-stand desk is personal preference (and to a lesser degree, medical requirement).

Some people find it more comfortable to stand while working. It's also typically not very healthy to remain seated for long periods of time (called being sedentary). Some people - especially those with back problems, can actually find sitting at a desk for long periods very painful - my boss is like this. If she sits for more than a half hour while working, it hurts. She can work for hours while standing though.

If you get one that's power adjustable, it's also useful to simply be able to exactly tailor how tall your desk is for any given work scenario - say, working on a PC's internals vs writing a report.

Most people certainly don't need them. But for others, it's a must have due to health reasons. A smaller group of regular people like them, but don't have any medical need.
