RAM Upgrade in prebuilt dual channel memory on ryzen system

I have an Asus X505ZA laptop with Ryzen 5 and 8Gig memory which is a 2x4Gb sticks. There is an expansion RAM slot on the board but will it be ruining the dual channel configuration if i add another 1x8Gb stick? or is it going to increase the performance?

It only has one Dimm so buying two is a waste, you can get a single stick for a little more than 1/2 price.  Why spend $80 to only use the one $50 dimm?
