Is the iphone se 2020 worth it??

ManosMax13

I have never used any apple device in the past. Also I dont like smart phones and thats why im still rocking my s3 plus. I am thinking of buying the iphone se 2020. But I need to be able to use it as I would if I were to buy a 500 dollar android smartphone. For example, will the 1800mah small battery allow me to play pokemon go or other relatively lite games for 2-3 hour sessions? Also how well does it compare to the competition in terms of photography as I like to take pictures of my animals and my trips to nature.

If you want a better screen (unless you Iike small phones) and a big battery, look elsewhere at the budget android options.

If you want a great camera, get the Pixel 3a (would recommend strongly) or the 4a when it's released.

If you want the best performance and best software support (although pixel is close) get the iPhone SE. Camera is good too, but not quite up to the pixel IMO.

That's my take. Really I'd look at if you want android or IOS, and then pick the Pixel or the SE.

You can also try Samsung's midrange A series https://www.samsung.com/gr/smartphones/galaxy-a-series/

Personally I wouldn't recommend the iPhone SE because the screen is just way too small imo. Rumor has it that they're going to release a 5 1/2" iPhone SE in Q2 2021.

My memory is the thing is more or less an iphone8 with poor battery life compared to the iphone8

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Also the OnePlus Nord may be worth keeping an eye on if it's available in your region. Although it will almost certainly have a worse camera than the pixel or iphone

No, for your requirements it is not worth it. With that kind of usage you're looking at around 5h of screen on time. Pokemon go isnt a light game by any means. You gotta have location & mobile data toggled on and the screen should be ideally kept at the brightest setting.

The main camera is pretty good for its price, but thats it. No night mode, no versatility at all.

Just a lot of compromises for speed.

If you want any suggestions, list your country and some websites you're planning to buy from.

How does it have worse battery than the 8 when it’s the exact same battery with a more efficient SoC?

For $500 you could look at second hand XR’s which would be better than the SE

New processor i think.  I don’t know.  I merely watched some reviews where it was getting 8hr battery life new

The new processor is more energy efficient. Unless they’re comparing it to a launch iPhone 8 with the original OS on it the SE should have better battery life

This implies the iPhone8 was getting under 8 hours.

Which it wasn’t because my fiancée had an 8 and it was doing all day.

The thing is there’s a lot more to a smartphone than one thing.  It’s got a smaller battery than competing phones.  I don’t know why it apparently has a shorter battery life.  Is it possible that multiple people are simply lying? Unlikely but not totally impossible.  It’s a question of looking at final results vs looking at pieces of hardware.  You are looking at hardware pieces.  I am looking at runtime

It’s just weird that a chip that has a 2W lower TDP running a screen without 3D Touch (I think the 8 had that) would draw more power. Unless the tests they’re doing aren’t representative of the real world.

Tests are models and all models are wrong by definition.  They are sometimes useful though.
the only way to compare it is with real life reports which I haven’t seen many of.

The's SE's screen to too small. And outdated design. It seems like you want to keep your phones for a long time, so I'd go with something with a full screen display, you will thank yourself in the future when your phone is pretty old

Dang that's a tiny battery. Most modern phones have around 3000 mah batteries. Poor battery life with that thing.

I recommend you go check out a Pixel 3a or Oneplus 7, as the iPhone's screen and battery are too small and outdated design, I say you go with a Pixel 3a or Oneplus 7 for your money.

To be fair Apple is much more efficient than android so it doesn’t need the battery size android does to get the same run time.

Keeping an android phone for a very long time doesn’t work.  They rarely do upkeep on their OS.  If they want to keep the phone for 3 years or more Apple is the only option.  It will probably need a battery swap though.

What would someone lose if they don't update to android 12? Screen recording?

No, apple is not the only option.

Security updates.  I personally think features are unimportant.

Most android phones come with 2 years of system updates and 3 years of monthly security updates.

So 3 years is max for android.  I understand the 5S is still being supported by Apple.  What it comes down to then I guess is the definition of “a long time”

The new SE is a decent phone. If you can make it through a day with your 7 the SE should be no problem. A lot of people posting probably don’t have a job so they spend their entire day on their phone. But if you live a normal life you shouldn’t have a problem with battery life. And when it does degrade, use your AppleCare and get a new one. And when it comes time to replace it again, it’s not very expensive, and you get your gaskets replaced at the same time.  A lot of the time they will do extra work and not charge you for it just to bring your phone back up. People talk a lotta smack about Apple, but I don’t think they really know how nice it is to own one. I’ve never bought a used one so I can’t speak for those.

Someone doesn't yeet their phone out the window, just because it doesn't get updates. Dont get me wrong, 5 or 6 years of support is great, but even if you keep an android past that 3 year period it doesnt become unusable.
