Depends quite a bit on the GPU in question. Frequently mined on cards can be best to avoid.

Other than that, it's a mixed bag when buying used as it's dependant on the seller. If you go through something like eBay, you do have quite a lot of protection through eBay and PayPal.

I've bought almost exclusively used cards. Never really had a problem. You do have to do your best to ask the questions you need to ask (overclocking, issues, etc), look at it before you buy it if it's local (if it's covered in dust and dirty, I wouldn't bother; if the seller can't even be bothered to clean it up before handing it off, just imagine how they treat things), stuff like that.

I'd avoid eBay. While you're a bit better covered, cards usually sell for a lot more than they're actually worth. If you stick it out, you can find good deals, but it can take a couple of weeks. Reddit is a great place to snag deals, however you'll have to look often as good deals can sell within minutes of being posted.

I had three so not sure if it’s the same one you sold me that I still have. But I’m holding onto it for a retro air cooled build. I love the coolers of that era, or get ahold of a 690.

Anybody have experience buying used GPUs. I see them be as much as half price. Is it worth the risk?

Yes, on most sites you can go to their profile and see if the user is trusted. It is worth the risk because I had opportunities to buy let's say a used motherboard or a cpu that the person selling it didn't need. So I got it for a really low price. Just be careful regardless of what I said, not everyone is nice and might try to scam you. Good luck.
