deserved ban, shame they'll lift it in like 3 days

From what I've seen, Twitch has gone as far as refunding the people who subbed to him and his sponsors have pulled out as well. Whatever it was, it was likely something very serious and won't be simply undone in a few days, it likely is permanent. Twitch seems to be trying to distance themselves from him as far as possible, so this definitely isn't something simple.

Sounds like it was a pretty good reason...

Judging from the tone and the way this has been handled I'd bet there's been a allegation of sexual misconduct made against him.

The fact they banned him without even looking into his guilt means either they wanted rid of him already and this is just the excuse they needed or it's been made very clear that he did what he's being accused of.

The most I'm expecting to hear from him or Twitch is the bare minimum possible with the usual "this matter is being investigated by the police and we cannot make a statement while there's an ongoing investigation" qualifier.

Heck for all we know it might have been the police who informed Twitch about an investigation into his behaviour.

As someone who works with large community groups and in education, I can assure you the last thing this world needs is to normalize shit behavior and defend it as a some sort of right equal to giving woman the right to vote.    Growing real caring communities that foster looking after each other and striving for a common goal become nigh on impossible when half the community thinks insulting people for entertainment is the normal way to go about life.

I don't even care anymore if twitch are being unfair in who they target, it's one less fuckwit modeling shit behavior to impressionable kids.

You saw that a guy was banned without knowing why and your first thought was to rant about "thots" not being banned and link videos about how women apparently get preferential treatment on twitch. This was completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, too. "Other people also did a bad" is not an argument when you don't know what the "bad" was here and it's even more egregious to just single out women when plenty of men with huge followings have also behaved very poorly without getting banned - there's just no crowd of losers "keeping score" and harassing them over it.

Yes & no. To be very clear, his stream is labelled as "For mature audiences only" and Twitches ToS do say that mature streams are intended for adult audiences.

IMO this boils down to 2 things. Bad parents who allow their 13 year old kids to watch that kind of stuff and Twitches almost total lack of any parental controls.

Edgy comedians have been a thing going back almost as long as humans have existed, they still exist to this day and its never really been as issue until fairly recently. You can't attack an entire medium because a small percentage of people don't follow the guidelines about its consumption.

100% yes. Within the last few months Twitch & the Doc signed a multi million dollar exclusivity contract. You think they're just gonna fire him and terminate that contract on a whim?

It's not twitches job to filter out shit people who aren't breaking any laws. There are plenty of people on Twitch worse than him, some of whom have already been named in this thread. And it's also not Twitches job to be a parent, if parents are so worried about their precious impressionable kids, then they should monitor their activity and you know, not let them watch him, or literally any other shit streamer. Parents should do their jobs in the first place.

The consequence of being a shit person should be no one wants to view you, but instead, all its done is create a circle jerk of abhorrent behavior. Maybe that says something about us as a people, rather than him as a person.

Do you even fanboy bro?

Agreed however Twitch could do MUCH more to help parents out. I don't believe Twitch have any form of parental control available at all.

They say you need to be 13 to have an account on the site and that some streams might not be suitable for minors however the only obstacle they put in place is a tick box the first time you join a mature stream. It literally shows up once, you tick it and it goes away forever.

They should allow parents to flag an account as being a minor and block all mature streams entirely for those accounts. Heck they could do it through Amazon by allowing parents to make child sub accounts. Sure its very easy to bypass but at least its something.

Porn is labelled for mature audience to but there is no real way to prevent kids from watching it.   It doesn't matter what they label the stream, shit you can watch porn on youtube even with their mature content requiring an account.

You can't blame the parents for shit that is out of their control now.    Every 13 year old has a phone and that phone has internet parents can't control.   Take away that phone and you socially ostracize your child (this is a real thing in modern childhood development), let them have it and they have essential full access to the internet.  Even school networks aren't fully locked down,  Plenty of kids know how to bypass filters using all sorts of different tools.

Who's attacking an entire medium,  I'm just saying his type of content is having a very notable effect on society because it has an effect on impressionable kids (and I am including people up to 25 in that).   Having 16 years of first hand experience working with delinquents and welfare children, working with both high and low income,  working in many schools and organizations I have watched the quality of social interaction fall heavily with the rise in streaming and youtube celebrities.   Before all this the only content children and developing teens got to see was filtered through FTA.  It is absolutely amazing to see the difference  in maturity and between children pre twitch or who play sport and don't care about streaming content and those who watch twitch and gamer channels alike.  If I didn't know any better I would say their was a clear cognitive and intellectual difference in development.   The ability to cope with difference and understand that there are no absolutes in life is a trait I see way more with kids who have little to do with that type of content.

It’s one of the comedic tropes.  I’m not super fond of it as it’s sort of a refuge for the incompetent Comedically, but it exists.  It can be done well.  I just don’t think it was particularly.  Very good comedians have used it.   Generally they also need to be saying something important though.  I never saw an instance where he did.  I’m not against seeing him go down without a ripple myself.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I guess you missed the bit where I said I don't care if twitch are fair or not in how they deal with people.   I don't care if it's twitches job or not, people like him are having a very observable negative effect on society and I am glad we know have one less.

People are stupid in general, but I am not even talking about stupid adults, I am talking about impressionable kids (people under 25).  Legality does not make something harmless.

that was just an example, it was never a rant for heavens sake, just because saying thing as they are feels like a rant to you i can't help it but the point was there's always has been a preferential treatment from twitch depending on how famous you are and twitches history has more number of cases favouring a female creator getting a pinch while the other gender has always gotten the slap even if it was the most forgivable thing ever, so yes, twitch decides to pick and choose who to enforce their TOC as they see fir, infact its just like patreon.

Spoiler

I cant 100% verify if this is true or not, but this video is making its rounds on twitter in many of the threads talking about this. Its purportedly the last 8 minutes 46 seconds of his last stream, clearly there is something major going on. Speculation is it potentially has to do with his house being raided by cops, but it is NOT confirmed at this time from what I am seeing. You can clearly see hints of issues throughout the video then at the end he scrambles hard to shut it down and get out of there quickly.

And that is bad how? If you don't like someone acting as an asshole (in most cases people actually aren't this way in real life, big surprise, not really...), then don't watch him. I actually hate current online "world" where everyone is obscenely polite to a degree it's almost sad how people can't even say "fuck this shit" openly anymore because everyone gets offended instantly. Like ffs, grow a god damn pair and stop being perpetually offended over god damn words.

I write an "Angry Sheep Blog" so you can imagine my content and I always leave self censoring out if possible. Especially in the "Rants" section. I just let it loose.

Missing the point I think.  Shock comedy has always been shock comedy.  It’s one of the oldest comedic tropes.  Working blue makes use of it.  It’s a bathtub though.  My suspicion is this has nothing to do with that though.  We don’t know what happened.  It will likely come out eventually.

See Spottys response to your first point.

Fun fact, both Google & Apple offer very robust parental controls for phones that belong to minors. Plus if you really do work in that realm then you'll already know that its gone way beyond that point already. Not only do parents not even try to keep their kids safe any more but in some cases the parents are the ones encouraging it. A few months ago a friend of my Mum rang me and asked me if I could go and lock down her internet because her 13 year old grandson (who lives with her for reasons that aren't important) was playing video games for 18 hours a day, he was refusing to go to school and just sitting on his Xbox from the moment he woke up until 3 or 4 am every single day. The tipping point was when she learned he was Streaming to Twitch. I went round to her house and spent 4 hours locking down everything I could for her to control. When he found out what I'd done he immediately told his Mum who bought him his own 4G Modem to put in his bedroom so he could still access the full internet with no restrictions, she even pays his bill. I've literally seen a parent walk into school to collect her 8 year old son from class holding a copy of GTA V and proudly showing it to a group of other parents while boasting about buying it for an 8 year old. I've dealt with a 5 year old who was telling his teachers to fuck off and being racist, after an investigation it turned out his dad was teaching him to do it. I've seen a 7 year old get permanent exclusion for literally fly kicking another child because his dad let him watch Bruce Lee movies. I've seen an 11 year old arrested for dealing drugs to high school kids, turns out he was doing it for his dad. I saw a mother so drunk she couldn't stand punch the headmistress because she said the mother was not taking her 7 year old child home in that state. Things got so bad in the school we worked at that after 15 years we decided to close our business and walk away.

You can dress it up anyway you like but ultimately it is bad parenting.
