I have an Adata XPG SP8000 plugged into the third and last slot on my motherboard and this thing is running at like 10c-15c, which is not normal at all because when it was in my old PC, it ran around 40c's... Via CrystalDisk I used to get read and write speeds of around 3000+, now the speeds I'm getting are 550 and 460.

The only thing that looks different is the temperature, so I can't think of anything else it may be.

any help?  thanks

edit: my actual Windows drive is a Sabrent 500gb Gen 4 which is installed in the first slot and running normally, getting the advertised speeds and temps are 35c-40c...

You realize that 10-15c is way below your ambient temp, and you haven't told us that you're refrigerating the M.2.

Temps have to be very HIGH to have negative effects for all intents and purposes.

Besides, either the sensor is malfunctioning, the software is off, or you're just guessing as to the temp ;)

How are you measuring the M.2 temp?

The ambient temp of the room the PC is in actually is around 15c's... it's a storage room that's part of the garage, so they're both equally cold. I'm in the next room over I have a displayport cable routed through the wall to my monitor in my actual room.

The other thing is I don't think the sensor is off, (using Hwinfo)    and even if it was off, it still doesn't explain the really bad performance I'm getting.

edit: I'm gonna turn off my PC and take the heatsink off the drive see if that does anything, will report back

Which motherboard is it?

The third m.2 slot might be limited to SATA only, not NVME, and thus the drive might be running in some compatibility mode.

it's a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master...   I think all 3 slots are Gen 4 capable

damn, removing the motherboard heatsink just made it run about 2 degrees hotter.....   so yea something weird is going on

Check if that SSD uses PCI-e interface, not SATA. Smth like CrystalDiskInfo should report that.

yea it's normal operating as far as I see...   I left the PC on overnight and according to HWinfo something made it shoot up to 29c's Maximum during the night when the PC was completely idle, and right now it's sitting at 11c's...  this is one of the more head scratching things I've seen in regards to my own PC issues.

Ok I figured out what the issue was.....    the hotdamn Windows Power Plan.... I usually have it set to Power Saver since I'm a casual PC user, almost never play games nor do anything intensive.

Switched the power plan to Balanced and everything is working normal now.... whew, whatta dumb thing to go wrong, why would a powerplan kill my SSD anyway, makes no sense to me
