Ryzen 5 3600 + 2070?

Hi all, I usually see the R5 3600 recommended to be paired with a 2060 or 2060S, my question is would a 2070 be held back by the 3600?

Hi,
No, but I wouldn't recommand the 2070 overall anyway.
The 2070S tho, yes. No hold back from the 3600.

Is the super version of the card really that much better to justify the price increase? I'm not going to be able to wait for the new Nvidia & AMD cards so I'm looking to get the most for my money right now. Also, what should I be paying for a 2070S?

Yes, the 2070S is pretty much ( or close ) to 2080 ( non super ) level of performances.
If you want a cheaper but also smart alternative, the 5700XT is pretty close to a 2070S if not the same for most games.

1080p 144Hz, but I'm limited to a 550W PSU. So 2070S and 5700xt might be out of the question🙃

a 3700x is going to be a better pick then.

I already own the R5 3600. Just looking to upgrade from a 1060 6GB

Didn't think non-super cards were even available anymore. But also, I agree with @GDRRiley, get a 5700XT. Compared to the 2070s, the 2070 has ~5% better performance overall, and was slower in some game benchmarks. And when i compared prices the 2070s was easily 80-100 dollars more, definitely not worth it IMO. The 5700XT hits a sweet spot for 1400p gaming so it should handle 1080 at 144Hz well.

okay well I'd still get a 5700xt over a 2070/2070S

My problem is my PSU is limited to 550W so I think both the 2070S and 5700XT are out of the question

Why would you do that, even if we imagine that he doesn't have the 3600 ? That's just increasing cost for almost no gains compared to the price. His biggest limitation is still gonna be the GPU, even with a 3600.

1080p high refresh rate means your going to want a stronger CPU

a 550W PSU should be able to handle a 3600+5700xt thats only around 400-450W

Im assuming that you will not play at 1080p, at least 1440p or otherwise would make no sense to buy a RTX2070.

So, no, it will not be bottlenecked by Ryzen 5 3600. Look at GPU usage on this video below. Almost 100% all the time. It means that CPU is good enough to make 2070 reach the maximum peformance.
