What? Why is this threadripper is cheaper than a r5 3600? Can someone explain to me?

Moved to CPUs, Motherboards and Memory. Also, the CPU is just a 1800X for the X399 platform. Do not buy.

Simply due to the fact that it isn't a great CPU, especially when you consider the price of the mobo.

Because its slower, and the mobo itself will run you $250 minimum for it (and when everything and its mom is 8 cores these days....and faster....).  First gen TR vs Third Gen Ryzen....FYI we used the 2990wx until we got a R7 3950X - it replaced the TR for productivity.  TR is now a server /shrug

It's an 1800X with TR worth of PCIe lanes... Multicore performance manages to beat the 3600 but that's it. For a normal user it's clearly the worse one.

 

and it's not cheap at all since the boards are much more expensive.

Because it's a first generation threadripper. The 3600 is much newer and has had major advancements done to it since the release of this CPU.

You might as well buy a 1700/1700x/1800x/2700/2700x, some of these are even cheaper

It's only a good deal if you need a lot of memory or you need a lot of fast storage .

 

It has 60 pci-e lanes, so you can use m.2 to pci-e adapters to install loads of nvme drives to the board and not choke, as you get 60 pci-e lanes in total.

 

It has 8 ram slots, so you can install 8 x 16 sticks of cheaper DDR4 to get a total of 128 GB.

32 GB sticks are rarer and more expensive.

 

Note that being a 1st gen Ryzen at the core, there's no point going for more than 3200 Mhz memory, and if you use 8 sticks probably 3000 Mhz will be enough.

 

The CPU is just like a Ryzen 1st gen 8 core, with the benefit of more pci-e lanes and more ddr4 channels ... it's cheap but you pay more on motherboard and newer threadrippers are not compatible with that socket.

It's gonna be the same as a ryzen 1800 which isn't great. That and the cost of a motherboard for that is a lot more so simply put don't get it.
