Can PSU cause coil whine on the GPU

Hi, i changed my gpu for a 2080 super Founders Edition but it does make this annoying coil whine noise when i'm gaming. Unlike recommanded by Nvidia i use a 550w 80+ Gold while 650w seems required. Can it be the cause of this noise ?

The PSU doesn't make a big difference. It has to do with the style and implementation of the chokes on the GPU (part of the VRM), and the way that the GPU demands power while it draws each frame.

are you sure that it is the GPU? Maybe its the PSU under the higher load

I see but the card is 3 month old and some owners do not have this problem that's why i was wondering if it was my fault or not. Does mounting the gpu verticaly would make a difference ?

Probably not. Some cards will whine more than others, even within the same model. Luck of the draw. You can try setting an FPS cap, since High FPS will make the card whine more. Not much else you can do except try to get it replaced.

as that video earlier showed, it's down to the inductors on the GPU, not to how the card is powered. this is a thing with PSUs as well, but then I'd have to come from the PSU itself, not the GPU. Coil whine can happen with the lowest and the highest end of cards, unfortunately.

 

you can attempt an RMA on it, but not every vendor considers it worthy for it, since it'll bring nothing more than the sound of it, there's no harm to the system or the GPU in any way because of it

I see. I'll see if i can get used to the noise, still a bit sad coming from RX5700 Asus that was almost dead silent in both gaming/ desktop use
