You better not pout, you better not cry. You better better not doubt cause Intel's going in dry - Another Security Vulnerability Discovered..

5x5

Well, if anyone is even surprised, this is still going on.

Quote

Ars Technica reports that two separate academic teams have identified two discrete exploits that can give hackers access to what is ostensibly the most secure enclaves or blocks of security memory within Intel’s silicon. SGX works by encrypting data from the CPU that is then written to the system RAM. On return to the CPU it is decrypted and the SGX system is designed to protect the code or data from this potential vulnerability. The latest SGX attacks known as SGAxe and CrossTalk bypass SGX using very sophisticated methodology but are the very sort of attacks that the system is expected to stop.

Quote

Although there is no evidence the hacks have been exploited Intel is nonetheless scrambling to develop a fix for both potential attacks and is planning on issuing an update for OEMs soon. Intel is quick to point out that there is already code mitigation released for a component of the SGAxe attack, but it will still move to patch the attack completely. In the meantime, Intel has published a list of processors that are vulnerable to the last attacks on its silicon which covers everything from Skylake to Amber Lake Y.

Well, basically everything from 2015 onward is still affected (in case anyone is wondering). The attacks aren't extremely common but the fact that the SGX is vulnerable to the exact type of attack it's supposed to stop is hilarious imho.

The Celeron is my son's chromebook is getting slower and slower by the day. Now, even I am doubting getting intels in laptops. I like Ryzen for building systems, but intel for laptops, and I am doubting my decision now.

As someone who owns two Intel-based laptops, it's annoying for sure when I have to take a performance hit to my already anemic ULV CPUs.

In fairness to Intel

These vulnerability mitigations don't have a big toll on performance (atleast that's what I have experienced ) and a Celeron well it's not necessarily the greatest

Intel's cache is so slow

Actually in this case it's not that it's slow it's that there isn't a lot of it

I'm surprised they didn't catch up to AMD in terms of that

hmmm i might upgrade soon then... my i3 8100 is just on the line of bottlenecking me, in my heaviest workload it's at 92 to 95%, but it doesn't bottleneck yet. once it happens i'll go AMD.

Another one, eh...

Does it say anywhere if this particular one require physical access to the computer to exploit or can it be run remotely? Can't see it on the article. (unless I'm blind)

I've got some software that wont launch if I use say, windows 10 1511 but it will with 1709, so you cant disable it forever. Eventually you will have to update it.
