s it worth the swap from the Sapphire RX580 to the MSI gtx 1660?

owencrispy

I recently built my new SFFPC gaming rig in the Fractal Node 202, in this orignal build, i tried to shoot for price and performance.

Graphics card wise, I thought I would save some money and use the "Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8G GDDR5"

Now, the issue is it runs HOT and LOUD in this case. I do have a noctua slim fan pushing extra air into the case, but under and gaming load is runs very hot and annoyingly loud (never used an AMD card before so didnt anticipate). So, heres the question. Do i keep the card and accept it will be loud and hot? Or, should I invest into a better card? Here, i was thinking if its worth to swap to the MSI gaming X gtx 1660 6gb. I play 1080p anyway, so the loss of 2GB of  VRAM is fine with me. I know the MSI coolers are premium, so is it worth the swap from the Sapphire RX580 to the MSI gtx 1660?

if your not returning the 580 then no dont pay for a new gpu

but if you are the difference in performance between them is very minimal but i recommend getting the 1650 super

it consumes less power

has a better frame buffer

less vram true but it is cheaper

either the 1650 super or the 1660 super dont get the 1660

1650 super is the same price as rx 580

yes it consumes less power but it is little slower, meanign that rx 580 is faster card.

Yes, i will be returning the rx580.

My thinking behind was do i pay the same amount (or even less) for the 1650, or shell out the extra £70~ for the 1660?

true but it is barely slower they are very close to each other

the only thing thats bad about it is probably the frame buffer

now that i think about it a 5500xt would be also good

how much difference? My main games are Rust and Apex Legends anyway and the 580 eats those for breakfast. Would it be worth the small sacrifice in performance for the card that runs alot quieter and cooler?

Your issue lies within your airflow, not in the GPU. Sapphire coolers are among the best on the market, and my Sapphire 290x has never been loud or hot despite consuming more power than your RX 580. Check out this video if you haven't already:
