I'm using a Sound Blaster X-Fi HD as a external USB DAC to power just my two normal desktop speakers and provide a working audio jack for my headphones. My issue is that sometimes the audio will just simply cut out.

To fix this I go into playback devices and disable/re-enable the device there and everything works.

I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why this is happening and if need be I will return this one and consider getting a different DAC.

If it's cutting out when you open or close specific programs (like DAWs) it's a sample rate issue. Windows doesn't play nice with changing sample rates so I'd highly suggest you set everything to 24bit 44.1khz. You physically can't measure or hear a difference above that.

I notice it most when listening to youtube videos but I'm switching from a lot of different programs and tabs in firefox so its hard to pin down a specific program related issue.

The next most common time that I notice is when I'm changing the volume via the volume wheel on my Corsair K70 keyboard.

All that said I would be willing to try and adjust the bit rate but I haven't seen an option for anything like that in the control panels (Both Windows 7 Pro and the DAC itself).

Found it. Oddly enough it was sitting at 16 bit 48000 Hz but I changed it to 24 bit 48000 Hz. I also disabled the Allow exclusive control to see if may my issues stem from the various programs that I use fighting for control. I'll just have to wait and see if the problem creeps back up here in the next day or two. Thanks for your help so far!

Looks like this might have solved my problem no issues in the last few days of use. Thanks for helping!
