Need advice for cooler

Dean0919

Hello, seems like my water cooler is dying, making some weird noises when on load, so I decided to buy new cooler and I wanna go with air cooling this time. I checked few coolers that are available in local stores and I want advice which to get. I'm thinking about these coolers:

  • LUCIFER V2
  • Thermaltake Riing Silent 12

These are the local stores with their available coolers:

I have i7 3770k CPU, working on stock speed with 3.9GHz boost. I don't want water coolers & I don't wanna order from foreign stores with extra shipping cost.

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-10400F | COOLER: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte B460M DS3H | RAM: Viper Steel Series 32GB | GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming 8GB | STORAGE: Kingston 240GB SA400M8 SSD + 2TB HDD + 4TB HDD | CASE: Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus | PSU: XFX PRO1050W Black Edition (80+ Gold) | KEYBOARD: Corsair Vengeance K70 | MOUSE: Logitech G502 | MOUSEPAD: Marvo MG010 | MONITOR: Dell S2721D 27" | SPEAKERS: Microlab Solo7C | HEADSET: Trust GXT 410 Rune Illuminated | OS: Windows 10 64bit

The hyper 212 Evo is a legendary piece of hardware, in case you wanted more performance for $60 you can get the Noctua U12S or the better and more expensive U12A.

Main PC [The Rig of Theseus]:

CPU: i5-8600K @ 5.0 GHz | GPU: GTX 1660 | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic | PSU: Corsair RM 650i | SSD: Corsair MP510 480 GB |  HDD: 2x 6 TB WD Red| Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Secondary PC [Why did I bother]:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3000G | GPU: Vega 3 iGPU | RAM: 8 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Corsair 88R | PSU: Corsair VS 650 | SSD: WD Green M.2 SATA 120 GB | Motherboard: MSI A320M-A PRO MAX | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Server [Solution in search of a problem]:

Model: HP DL360e Gen8 | CPU: 1x Xeon E5-2430L v1 | RAM: 12 GB DDR3 1066 MHz | SSD: Kingston A400 120 GB | OS: VMware ESXi 7

Server 2 electric boogaloo [A waste of electricity]:

Model: intel NUC NUC5CPYH | CPU: Celeron N3050 | RAM: 2GB DDR3L 1600 MHz | SSD: Kingston UV400 120 GB | OS: Debian Bullseye

Laptop:

Model: ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 AMD | CPU: Ryzen 7 4700U | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz | OS: Windows 11 Pro

Photography:

Cameras:

Full Frame digital: Sony α7

APS-C digital: Sony α100

Medium Format Film: Kodak Junior SIX-20

35mm Film:

Lenses:

Sony SAL-1870 18-70mm ƒ/3.5-5.6

Sony SAL-75300 75-300mm ƒ/4.5-5.6

Meike MK-50mm ƒ/1.7

PSA: No, I didn't waste all that money on computers, (except the main one) my server cost $40, the intel NUC was my old PC (although then it had 8GB of ram, I gave the bigger stick of ram to a person who really needed it), my laptop is used and the second PC is really cheap.

I like tinkering with computers and have a personal hatred towards phones and everything they represent (I daily drive an iPhone 7, or a 6, depends on which one works that day)

For the nice looks. But it was few years ago. I don't care about looks anymore.

I didn't find it on the local stores I pasted links. Where did you see that Hyper 212 evo?

Okay, I found that Hyper 212 Evo somewhere from the second hand, someone is selling it here locally for 46$.

So, should I go with that cooler. Is it better than that Luficer V2? I checked some reviews of that Lucifer and it seems also pretty good with temps.

If you have to choose between the ones in the original post i'd go for the Lucifer V2. Although i dont have any experience with GamerStorm or Thermaltake products.

How much is the Lucifer in $ in your Region?

I'm just checking the review of that Lucifer V2 and those temps don't seem bad: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/deepcool-lucifer/6.html

For the Price the Lucifer seems like the better Performer. But i'll always prefer the Hyper 212 Evo because i know what i get. And the Hyper 212 Evo is not the best-selling CPU cooler for nothing. Cooling for your 3770 should be plenty.

I just found another local store with more choices here: https://gitec.ge/en/coolers

. I'm wondering if these arctic freezers are better than Lucifer V2? Price is a bit better - 43$.

I checked some reviews about this cooler ARCTIC FREEZER 34 ESPORTS & seems like it has great ratings. They say it's a killer value and it also leaves room for my tall G.Skill Trident X memory sticks. So, I think, I'm gonna get that one.

FInally, I changed my cooler and got that Arctic Freezer 34 esports and holy cow, it's like a day and night difference. First of all, my CPU is much cooler now and on the load it doesn't exceed 61 degrees in stress CPU tests (for 1 minute), while my previous cooler (Thermaltake water 2.0 peformer), was getting 85 degrees on those same CPU tests. Secondly, this new cooler is also very quiet comparing to my previous cooler. On heavy load, my previous cooler was like a jet, loud as hell, but this new one is much quiet even on full load with full rpm speed and most of all, I don't have to worry about risks for leaking the water or pump issue, oh and it comes with 10 years warranty.
