AMD "display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

Gene Sargent

Well, I got my newly upgraded rig a fresh installation of windows, installed the drivers, and now it's going black every few minutes saying "display driver stopped responding and has recovered". It also freezes up and crashes every time I try to run a game (Oculus being the only game software yet installed so idk if it affects others. I also noticed that there is a strange background hum that is coming from my speakers that ramps up louder and louder before immediately cutting back to quiet and then eventually ramping up again. Not sure if that's related.

I've tried DDUing the drivers and reinstalling them, but the problem remains. Really not sure what this is.

Is the strange background hum happen when you get high FPS or when gaming?

Try the Witcher 3 main menu with uncapped FPS (if you have the game of course)

I can't even get to the main menu of a game. The noise ramp cycle starts as soon as I power the computer on, and I can't seem to find a causal link to what makes it happen

Try the audio port on the front of the case and tell me if there is a difference.

Actually nvm, turns out it was an unrelated problem doing me from loading destiny 2. The only software so far tested that crashes my computer is Oculus

No, the other issues remain. I haven't had the chance to test the sound issue

Alright, I did another fresh install and made sure to cleanly install all drivers and windows updates. That seems to have fixed the driver software crashing as well as the sound. The only remaining issue is the Oculus software crashing the computer when it runs

Did you try installing a different version of the software?
