Domain as IP address for Minecraft Server

therealnxt

I have a Minecraft server for my friends, but I want to open it to the public. I don't want people to connect to my IP address (##.###.###.###), I want people to connect to my domain (mc.therealnxt.com). I went to my DNS settings and added the instructions, but my friends cannot connect to my server with mc.therealnxt.com, only ##.###.###.###. I really need help for setting it up. My domain registrar is GoDaddy.

EDIT: THE PROBLEM IS FIXED! I was inputting my internal IP address (starting with 1) instead of my external IP (starting with 6).

That would be because your friends ISP or other Public DNS don't have the Domain Name in their systems to resolve to your IP. You can look into services such as no-ip. Setup the domain name on there and have it point to your IP then have them connect with the domain name.

Edit: I really need to read things all the way through. Try a different DNS service.

You know that a domain is just a "mask" to your IP, right?

It's pretty easy to get your 69.157.143.116 ip through your domain if you worry about it somehow. If you really want no one to know the IP of that server, you should probably have a different server just for MC.

Just a friendly reminder:

If you do not want to discolse your public IP address here, you shouldn't even show us your domain.

Anyone that knows the literal basics of command line can find the IP behind that host in a matter of seconds.

I wouldn't just quote it in case OP decides to redact it.

If he does mind, I can edit the post without a problem.

But it'd be better if the OP learned how stuff works along with the minimal security practices instead of being afraid and relying on security through obscurity, and I bet that many people here would be willing to help.

Not even command line, a quick google for "dns checker" already does the job lol

I always find `ping sub.domain.tld` faster/easier lol
