3900x vs 3950x

What would be my best option a 3900 or 3950. Gaming and stream, along with Photoshop and video editing will be used up to 3 monitors.

3900x and x570/b550 makes much more sense since you can sell the 3900x and grab the new 4900x after summer

Go for the 3900x.

I dont think the 3950x offers enough extra Performance to justify the price in your case.

In gaming / streaming it shouldnt perform any better.

I cant really say much about video editing as i dont do that Kind of stuff.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

ANd in september the new 4900x will be launched. if you need the pc now 3900x will be plenty, you can probably sell it around 300 dollars or so after the summer. then grab the 4900x for 450-500 dollars

if you get the 3950x it will cost you around 700 dollars. that is a waste for gaming. 4900x will be much better than 3900x /according to rumors)

 

3950x =700 dollars

4900x (after buying 3900x and selling it)= 150-250 dollars.

@JayRIf you are playing at 1440p or above, the 3950x will be better by single digit numbers in terms of fps. Thats not something you as the user will ever notice.

Even at 1080p the difference will hardly be worth the price difference from 420 to 750 $.

The extra 4 cores won't be as impactful on your workload compared to a 4900x which is supposed to have higher clocks as well.

Especially of you're playing graphics heavy games the load will be on the GPU side and not the CPU.

I wouldnt suggest to overclock Ryzen.

Ist just not worth the hassle and you will have worse Performance in games because the clocks wont go as high with an all-core OC.

 

But to summarize, get the 3900x.

For YOUR usecase the 3950x is not worth the extra $.

If you're going with an NVIDIA GPU i'd suggest to go with the NVENC Encoder so most of the work will be on the GPU side while you stream.

For streaming and gaming, even an 8C/16T CPU can suffice. If you use your GPU for encoding (say for example you have an Nvidia GPU and use NVENC instead of H264 for encoding), you have even less load on the CPU.

Photoshop is mostly single-core dependant. It's only video editing that, depending on the application, can leverage as many threads as you throw at it.

 

Unless you do really heavy video editing constantly (like more than gaming, streaming and/or photo editing), I'd say go for the 3900X (if not even 3700X). Your use case doesn't really warrant the extra cost of the 3950X.

the purpose is very heavy workstation kinds of workload like heavy video editing. if you make money out of the video editing you're using, and the 30% time reduction in rendering/encoding time translates directly into money saved for you, go for the 3950x, otherwise, it's not worth it.

a 3950x is wasting money you don't need the extra performance the 3900x already has plenty for any workload

I see. Why would I upgrade to a 4900 if a 3900 or 3950 is more then enough for my needs.
