Upgrading to 2080s GPU with old 6600K CPU, bottleneck?

Currently I have a gtx 1070 a 6600K CPU, and thinking of upgrading my GPU only. On CoD MW Warzone, I want to get 144fps on my 144hz monitor, on 1080p. Currently my game seems to crash pretty often if I don't cap my FPS at 60 and i think it's due to my 1070.

 

Would the 6600k bottleneck the 2080s? Not sure if it's worth getting upgrading the 6600k to a 9600 or something, since i'm already dropping a lot on the 2080s.

a 9600 would be pointless as you need a new board

 

Wait on an upgrade till the fall with ryzen 4000 launch and new GPUs

Thanks for the reply. My mobo is a MSI z170a M3. The 9600 and 6600 both have a LGA1151 socket. Why do you say i'd need a new board?

Because even though 6/7/8/9th gen have the same socket, chipsets either support 6/7th or 8/9th gen.

cus intel allows the z170 and z270 to only support 6th and 7th gen chips

6th/7th gen LGA1151 isn't the same as 8th/9th gen, they are not compatible.

3700x or you can buy GPU now and upgrade CPU later when 4th gen Ryzen come?
