Can I use 2666 ram with 2400?

Go to solution Solved by Jurrunio,

Yes it will work

Is the current 4GB soldered? I would prefer 16GB but if it's soldered then 12 is the max for you

In theory yes you can, the real problem is with voltage.

DDR4 SODIMM only runs 1.2V, no other value.

Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R9VF

I have this model of laptop. It's running on Ryzen 5 3500U and sadly it comes with 4gb of memory. Now that I'd like to upgrade it, the only ram speed that is available to me is a 2666Mhz one. Is it possible that I'd use this one with the existing 2400Mhz?

Bonus if you send some tip one how large should I get? Would +8gb do?

Thanks!

Won't it also bring his 2666 memory down to 2400 aswell? Just, something to keep in mind OP.

Yes, but "use" does not care about slow downs. OP doesnt have the option

For some reason this thread made me curious about my ram. Just realized for the last three or so years I've been running my 4000hz trident z memory at 2000hz...

So thank you?

2000MHz without considering it's DDR?

Yep...Not 100% sure if it is accurate but task manager was telling me it was running at 2000. Now it is at 4000. I'm a moron.

Sadly the 4gb is soldered. This would just underclock the 2666 into 2400mhz, right? Thanks for the help! Appreciate it!.
