Best upgrade for i5 9400f.

Hi when i was building my pc I didnt think much about my cpu and got a 9400f I am now paying the consequences of 100 percent loads in some games bottlenecking my 2060 super. I was wondering what would be a good upgrade for my cpu within 200 to 300

Then I'd get a Ryzen 3600 with a good B450 board, like a B450-A PRO MAX from MSI.

I wouldn't put anything more than the 9400F you have in that board, hence why if you were to go with a 9700/9900, you'd also probably have to invest in a Z390 board, which would make 0 sense at this point in time.

From a 9400F to a 3600? It is quite a substantial upgrade - double the threads, more cache and slightly better single-core performance.

But you could also wait for Zen 3 (Ryzen 4000) to launch, and upgrade to a 4600(?) when that comes out, as the leaks/rumours suggest they'll bring quite a hefty bump in performance even over the current-gen Zen 2 chips.

Do you think then zen 3 4600 will be a lot more expensive or will they just bring other prices down?

Well both the 2600 and 3600 launched at a $199 MSRP. I'd expect the 4600 to launch at maybe around $219, which is what the original 1600 was going for at launch, but it could also remain at $199, or it could go for $249 (which is what the 3600X went for at launch), we don't have any official number on the matter as of yet.

What game is taking your cpu to 100%? I've got a 9400f and it doesn't get that high on any game I've played.

Haven't played Destiny 2 but in Modern Warfare it hovers round 70% on a couple of cores and a lot lower on the other 4. I play MW at 144 hz @ 1080p on high/ultra settings and get roughly 160 - 170 fps.

That's not me bragging btw, I'm just wondering how it's happening on your system. How much ram have you got and at what speed?

Actually what do you use to measure your cpu usage maybe that's why

I have it open on a second screen sometimes to see if the usage is high on new games so the max helps but mostly I watch it in real time.
