B450/570 or wait for B550

Hi guys. 
 

im trying to put together a gaming build and it’ll be my first one. I usually game on my Xbox. My pc will probably have a 2070super and a 3600cpu. What I want advice on is wether the X570 or B550 is going to offer me any more in performance in gaming compared to B450? Any help you guys have would be great. Thank

no, it won't offer more performance. There are many sub $100 B450 motherboards that can max out a 6 core CPU.

No better performance. Exactly the same.

 

The only real difference is support for PCI-e gen 4, which only the very fast SSD's use. No other PC components use it at this point.

 

The other major difference is better support for future CPU's. B550 will support 4000 series CPU's guaranteed, and maybe even later generations. (B450 will only support them after a Beta BIOS update, which will come later than the CPU's launch,  and you will be dependent on support for this from the motherboard manufacturer. )

 

But honestly, B550 shouldnt be more expensive, so if you can wait for them to become available, just get B550. I am hearing a june 16th availability for B550 motherboards. SO just wait.

No, the performance is going to be the same. Unless you are planning on overclocking getting a more budget motherboard is fine.

Ok. As stated I’m a complete novice to all this and although I’ve been looking at a lot of information, I’m finding it hard to determine whether a lot of it is going to affect what I want to achieve. I’m basically trying to put together a nice gaming pc at a budget of £1000-£1500. Also trying to keep in mind that things change quite regularly in the tech world. As I’m coming from an Xbox one x, I have no doubt I can put together a gaming rig that will look better than the Xbox does. One thing I don’t want to do is buy things that I’m not going to use. 1080p possibly 1440p gaming is what I’d like to achieve.

Seeing that B550 is literally coming in days / weeks, and it should be priced similarly to B450, why get B450 at this point?

 

Future support for upgrades is important in the PC world. And you'll get those newer features for essentially no extra money.

I have seen that the prices are going to be higher than the b450. Some going as high as £260. Which is why I’m asking about this because if the pci e 4.0 is necessary then should I opt for the X570.

PCIe 4 is definitely not necessary.

 

If you could find a reasonably priced B550 I would still go for that, for better future compatibility. But if you dont plan on upgrading for the next 4 years or so, you can just get a B450, and wont notice any difference. (in 4 years time, the B550 wont support the newer CPUs either probably)
