Interesting how, well, uninteresting it is, as in it looks like Gigabyte didn't have to bother on skimping on anything really, despite this being a B series motherboard.

But then again, you could also get something like an X570 Unify for just a little more than that.

So basically, B550 is not the replacement for B450 that we necessarily expected? These boards slot in quite a weird price bracket, and with some B550 boards costing similar or even more than their X570 counterparts, these will be quite a hard sell in my opinion, at least at launch prior to any price cuts.

Take for example the B550 Tomahawk from MSI, at $179 it lacks onboard WiFi, I would assume it will have weaker VRMs, lacks PCI-E 4.0 lanes from the chipset, while being just $20 cheaper than the X570 Tomahawk, which granted isn't out yet for some reason but is a beast of a board from what we've already seen in reviews, and sits at a $200 MSRP.

Either we'll see discounts on these boards in the first weeks of launch, or we'll probably see an upwards spike in pricing for X570 boards, which already weren't exactly inexpensive.

Does this open up room for A520 ?

Haven't thought about this actually. Maybe it'd make sense with the launch of Zen 2 APUs later this year, but I don't really know.

I wouldn't really see them launching another chipset at that point in time though, considering the fact that after Zen 3 we'll be moving onto a new socket.

I mean this is actually sad. Instead of putting overkill VRM they should stick to something worse. Ryzen doesnt need extreme VRM to run as we know from B450 TOMAHAWK where 16core runs just fine...

Wait isn't zen 3 going to be on AM4 and zen 4 (or 3+) on AM5 ?.....

I mean AMD can do it....

if they move zen 3 to AM5, i wish we get AM5 ddr4 motherboards. (just like the 100 series intel motherboards, even if we get 10% less performance)

Cuz ddr5 availability and prices will be pain...

Nope, Zen 3 will be on AM4 still. It's just that the APUs are always one generation behind (in the current product stack for example, so Ryzen 3000, the CPUs are all Zen 2 from the 3100 all the way up to the 3950X, while the APUs, so the 3200G and 3400G, are Zen+).

AMD naming scheme is confusing af .....

Typical MSI price gouging. Same for Aorus products. The Tomahawk is the same price as the X570 TuF so it will be stillborn

The B450 Tomahawk MSRP is like 110-125 (?, I don't exactly know US prices), so this is a pretty significant price hike. I suspect it's due to not only increased cost of PCIe Gen 4, but also MSi tapping into the popularity of the Tomahawk series. I hope to see these prices come down, but I'm not expecting any miracles.

They're priced well, no need to get more expensive one wizh that chipset though. I got X570 Aorus Elite relatively cheap really.
