Epic games download vs write speed

MrChippo

Hey guys. I hope this is the right place and this might be a dumb question.

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on why when I'm downloading a game from epic games launcher, the disk write speed is way higher then the download? What exactly is going on here? Is it moving other data around or something? I included a screenshot.

I haven’t been able to figure out why, but this happens to me too when I’m downloading games from basically any store.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

The data you download is compressed, when you write it to the disk it gets uncompressed which is a lot bigger, and things like formatting of the data take up more space.
