We made the SLOWEST NEW PC!

ColinLTT

We’ve come a long way in PC technology in the last decade, and it made us wonder: how slow is the slowest brand new PC you can build? Well today, we’ll find out how slow a desktop can be with reasonable selections if you are on a budget, and compare them to what you SHOULD by, to get a sense of just how slow you can go.

You know it's a great PC when you can count its 1080p fps on two hands

I'm wondering what would happen if they had 2x4GB RAM (in dual channel) instead of the GT210 for the cheap setup. Wouldn't it perform better and cost less?

Definitely. Pretty sure the Athlon 3000G onboard Vega graphics are better than a crap GPU from 2009. You just need dual channel RAM since you don't have a separate vram on a separate GPU. Would be cheaper and faster. I would much rather see how a build like that performs with and without the RX 570.

I have seen people get used to 10 FPS. My sister accidentally limited her FPS to 10 in a game and played it like that for months. I finally realized and fixed, she was confused and couldn't tell that I'd changed anything. It was one of my most infuriating moments as a computer enthusiast.

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.

Just removing the GPU could be enough to get mean 50 or so FPS in CSGO in low-mid (some dips though). I have one PC with a 200ge and 2x4gb and can hit 70fps mean on CSGO in low-mid setting (Dual Channel has great impact, but the 3000g is just a better 200ge)

This is weird. The GT210 is NOT a bad card, it's amazing. It's the cheapest card you can buy that is still supported if you just need an extra display output. The issue of bad value GPU's does exist, 50-100 dollar GPU's are almost never worth it. But the GT210 is not one of those cards.
Luke even RECOMMENDED the GT210 as an alternative to bad-value low end videocards in this video:

I am not defending low end gpu's. I think everything in the "low end videocards suck" videa is true! The GT210 is just not a good example for a bad value card because it is so cheap that it is your only option if you just need a display.

yes as an output card not by any means any thing else

its not made to render things like games etc it is made just to output to more  monitors

Agree, if fps is not your main drive (s'cuse the pun), like in a server, it's great for getting video output to enable installation of an OS and whatever else needs doing on that machine :)

I've used 2. One died and got replaced by a 710, the other is still in use. In a server, yes :P

exactly, so I don't think the 210 is a good example for a bad value card because it does have a usecase.
something like a gtx1030 (around 80 bucks) would have been a way worst card that actually no one should buy

well technically  its "bad value" for gaming

With dual channel RAM, the iGPU should have been faster than the GT 210

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

Nope, because Linus did adress it in the video.

Why is it that whenever there's an AMD cpu with Vega Graphics, they never seem to take it seriously, or give it a chance for that matter, like what was the purpose of the GPU when you already had a better one on the CPU, and it isn't this video specifically, it's all of them. Like the El-Cheapo at LTX where the LowSpecGamer came to fix the system since it didn't run memory and dual channel which really affected it's performance. Like, from my perspective it seems that AMD's APU's, anything from Athlon to 3400G are just used as laughing stocks rather than being given a chance.

Why are they even using a GT210 at all when the point is to build the cheapest possible PC with just brand new parts? It doesn't make sense to me.

@LinusTech I own a 210 (fan dead no longer being used) when it was fairly new, funny thing is you don't need to replace the fan if one has proper case flow. Anyways the reason why I bought the 210 was because of Blu Rays and XP. Windows XP would not play them with a built in gpu (for the CPUs in question, AMD) but only on a dedicated unit, hence needing one. Simply put the 210 was never advertised as a gaming gpu, but something equal to what was offered at the time inside cpu/motherboards.

Also Windows 10 is just stupidly slow on HDD... Tho out of curiosity, was the drive being used the 64mb old varient or the 256 as linked? Because the 256mb one is SMR, while load times shouldn't be effected blaming normal PMR drives due to write speed issues possibly caused by SMR/Windows/Loading a game is unfair to PMR drives. It's also why I keep my games away from the OS drive as much as possible, because the second Windows thinks it needs to do something it could cause loading time issues. A game only SMR drive shouldn't be effected in loading times, install times maybe.

That and I doubt anyone would complain about buying a $25 SSD...

https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-NS100-128GB-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B07TKGGJ1T/

aka the computer over all was slow because of your setup. Also one could buy 2x2GB sticks to get dual channel, not like I would suggest that either.

This would have been a far better one at $40 more and mildly better than FlyingDutchmans above.

Do you want me to ship them a BFG sticker instead? Not really worth the buck in post but... I should also have a Ubuntu sticker(s) from 09 and a OCZ one as well 🙄

Even back in 2010 when I needed a cheap graphics card for my Dell Vostro, I got a GT 220. The Geforce 210 is an abomination and I don't know why they still sell them.

EDIT: Even the Intel HD 3000 in my 2011 Dell laptop scores 2.5 times higher on Passmark than the 210, yikes.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1
