I had a bit of an issue on the three. I ordered them and found out they actually didnt have 3 and I waited for a week and a half for it to ship.

(3) Gigabyte Gaming G1 GTX 980 ~1 million PPD

(2) Asus DirectCU II GTX 780 ~300K PPD

yeah, holy shit that is awesome :P those maxwell gpu's fold like beasts.

nearly a year ago i spent 3k on a 4p rig,2 month's dedicated to purchasing. Now you can just buy two 970's which will be the equivalent ppd, use alot less power, less noise, less heat, less space, and call it a day.

pretty much.. even pre BA project ending. After that this 550 watt monstrosity will practically be inferior to a single 970.

Good old Moore's law?

the processor is 4+ years old, i suppose it was inevitable. There's nothing in moore's law about cpu's being useless though :P

edit: i guess it's better to say "bad value" as opposed to useless.

Your 4 processors and 48 cores sound and look cooler though! I got a quad processor machine in my server rack but it's old. Only 16 cores and it only put out 40k PPD when I tried it.

Well I have updated my rig since the last time I posted. My rigs now consist of the following:

My Rig

4790K @ 4.6ghz 1.252v

x2 Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 @ 1472 core and 1900 memory

Wife's Rig

4690K @ 4.6ghz  1.33v

EVGA GTX 970 SC @ 1522 core and 1900 memory

These are my safe settings for folding and to keep my temps where I want them.

I'm folding on my main rig because my other rigs can't do anything :P It's rocking a(n)

  • Intel i7 3770k
  • 2x GTX 670s (reference)
  • 8GB RAM

I had it mining for a week while I was at vacation and I was up by 400,000 points :D I'm thinking of pushing over the Folding idea to my school so more people can be a part of this.

BTW - if anyone is looking for upgrades, best bang for the buck, PPD wise, is to add, or upgrade, the video card, espcially the NVidia ones, for the average system. And... check kijiji. Lot of people selling "older" cards at very good prices that are still awesome for folding, like the GTX 460.

what other cards do you recomend ? cuz i found some old qudro fx1800 for like 80$ idk if they would fold well or not tho

Please quote me or tag me if your trying to talk to me , I might see it through all my other notifications ^_^

Spoiler
Spoiler
the current list of dead cards is as follows 2 evga gtx 980ti acx 2.0 , 1 evga gtx 980 acx 2.0 1600mhz core 2100mhz ram golden chip card ... failed hardcore , 1 290x that caught fire , 1 hd 7950 .

may you all rest in peaces in the giant pc in the sky

Pass on those, Quadro cards will fold, but they get terrible PPD, they are designed as CAD and 3D modeling cards and lower end ones don't fold very well. If they are too old, more the 2-3 years, they won't fold at all..

I occasionally use my 480 and 7950 to fold now. I have to try and get my grandma's computer folding again, since Catalyst crashes when it starts to fold. I just got a board that has a Celeron D at some frequency I forgot, and I'll have that folding pretty much 24/7, other than on the weekends when I use it. I plan to replace it with an E8500 or something.
