Going from a 4k monitor back to 1440p or 1080p

4k60 -> 1440p144 will feel amazing. Refresh rate is far more important IMO than resolution. I don't recommend going back to 1080p, because as you mentioned, the change will be jarring.

About two years ago i bought my 27 inch 4k60 Sceptre U27 monitor for around $200. I had just upgraded my graphics card to a 1080ti and was hopping on the 4k train! As games become more difficult to run I have been considering choosing a 24inch 1080p 144hz or 27 inch 1440p 144hz monitor instead. In theory, I'd like to take advatage of the raw power of the 1080ti on 1080p and be futureproofing myself performance-wise, however I feel as if the jump from 4k to 1080p will be too jarring. The only comparison I have right now is a 1080p 21 inch Hp monitor and I'm unsure if that really gives me the best understanding of what going back to 1080p will be like. If anyone has gone from 4k back to 1080p or 1440p do you think I would be able to handle the graphical downgrade of 1080p or should I go for 1440p to help with the clarity loss?

As someone who is using both a 4K as well as a 1080p regularly: I don't know how close you're sitting to your screen, but as someone sitting a bit more than an arm length (80-90cm) away from the display I find little benefit in 4K at 27". More so at the 4K screen I increased the font size to about 130% for comfortable reading. The last time I checked this roughly translates to a 1440p screen at the same size.

So personally I'm going from my 1080p to 1440p but I hardly see a reason to consider a 4K screen. It's just way harder to drive, requires font scaling while high framerates are way more expensive to drive.

Whereas 1440p offers you a sharper image, is only a bit harder to drive, but also comes with an increased screen real-estate

Thanks you guys! Yea i shortly realized 4k was a mistake due to how hard it was to run and didn't properly do my research and take into account the problems it might have as games become harder to run. I really appreciate your responses they really helped me. I'm definitely going to go for 1440p 144hz
