Is the i5-3570 a good budget cpu?

Go to solution Solved by aisle9,

Anything's a good budget CPU if the price is right. The system you have there is pretty well balanced, but the i5 being a true quad instead of a 4c/8t will hurt sooner rather than later. Any chance of getting an i7-3770?

You're gonna want that i7, imo, and you will have to do incremental upgrades as you go. Depending on the games you want to play, you might want to consider saving up longer to get a Ryzen 5 system instead.

If you can make a Ryzen 5/7 build happen, no. And you really should consider the Ryzen. If you can't, yes, you'd definitely want the i7.

Survive? It's an Optiplex. It's got a lot of life left in it either way. How long will it be useful? Depends on what games you want to play and what resolution/settings you want to play them at. I can't see the future, unfortunately.

Hard to say since next-gen console uses 8-cores many argue 6-core is minimum... O_O
