1st gaming setup - how important are a keyboard and mouse?

I am overwhelmed by the amount of choices out there for keyboards and mice, I have no idea what is worth the money and what is just a cash-grab. Could anyone help me out with a suggestion on some sold choices for a keyboard and mouse.

I was looking at the logitech G502 hero and G910 orion spark for my 1st setup, but again no idea if these are solid choices.

Your best choice, and this is difficult right now, is to go test both devices in person, and see what feels better in your hands.

The one that is most comfortable for you, is the best choice for you

for a mouse go with something that fits your hand and looks good on your setup the speeds between each mouse isnt really noticeable for keyboard try to go with a men-chanical keyboard since they are faster

As far as I'm concerned the only reason to spend a ton of money on either is for aesthetics. Spend the money elsewhere and then down the road if you want bling, get the bling.

Hell, I started with an old Dell keyboard and mouse 20 years ago. I still don't have an "extreme" combo. I run a Corsair Strafe RGB with MX reds and G502 Proteus Spectrum.

I agree.

I actually type better on the free Dell keyboards you get with office PCs, vs my Logitech G910.  So I would start off with the cheapest setup and then upgrade only when you find something you try out and like more.  Don't start off spending $200 on a keyboard.

Mouse... it's what fits your hand best IMO.  Hours and hours of daily use can bring out all the little muscles and nerves for us older folks :)

I will concur with the thread: I have an Amazon Basics mouse and it works fine.  I did upgrade to a mechanical keyboard for hand comfort (I have a Razer Black Widow, but I've used $40-50 mechanical keyboards and they're perfectly fine.  If you don't have problems with normal keyboards, don't worry about mechanical, though).

The ONE thing you NEED to shop for is a keyboard that can accept a lot of inputs.  Most decent keyboards can take in 5+ simultaneous keypresses at a time, but the cheaper ones have like 2 or 3, which is not quite enough.  Basically, if they advertise multi-key, you're probably fine.

Let me ask the thread this, I've had some issues in the past with swelling of tendons in my hand/arm - which keyboard switches would have the least amount of resistance for prolonged use/depressing of the buttons?

You might be better off looking at an ergonomic keyboard, rather than at ergonomic switches? E.g. Ergodox, Dactyl, etc. The lightest stock switches that I know of is Gateron Clear.

it's as much the design of the keyboard it the resistance. Like I can jam on an Xbox 1 controller no prob, but a PS4 controller makes my forearm fell like its on fire. I want something that has a very low resistance in the switches.

For example I have a Microsoft natural ergonomic 4000 - the angle is nice but the resistance on the keys is a bit much for holding them down for a long time like you would when gaming.

The you want something with Gat Clears. Unless you want to get into modding the switches with lighter springs.

I did some light digging into this and found that Logitech G advanced mechanical switches have a 50Cn and the Gat clears are at about 60Cn (granted I needed to google what that meant so I knew what I was looking at 😅) how would you compare the 2 switches?

I'm not sure about about that logitech switch but Gateron Clears activate at 35.  Sometimes switches are rated at activation force, and sometimes at bottom out force so comparing ratings is not always that straight forward. I think gat clears bottom out at maybe 50.

1 Cn is the force exerted by 1 gram in 1G of gravity. So grams and Cn are used interchangeably even though it's probably more correctly to use Cn.
