Yeah, the police is being brainless drones again.

A couple was returning home from New Brunswick (a 10+ hours drive for anyone wondering) this weekend and they got slapped too, even though they were covered by the exception clause.

The gov even said the cops are supposed to use common sense when issuing those fines, looks like it's not as common as we thought.

@Andreas Lilja

seems like MTL PD isn't changing course and are ticketing anyone they encounter ;

https://www.iheartradio.ca/cjad/news/montreal-police-give-curfew-ticket-to-soup-kitchen-regular-client-1.14375422

From another article (that I won't link because it's highly political) ;

Quote

Montreal police spokeswoman Const. Annabelle Prato said police officers have been asked to use their judgment when dealing with homeless people who are outdoors after 8 p.m. In an email Wednesday, she said police are looking at the context of each situation and, when possible, helping homeless people access available resources.

Except it's completely false, they're ticketing homeless people without helping and are questioning the legitimacy of people's exemptions ... Now people are scared to go to the hospital, and now some doctors have to publicly tell people they're allowed to break curfew if they have a medical emergency !!! JFC.

Source for the hospital stuff, in French ;

That's really obscene. They seem to not be doing what it says they should. But given the fact that there have to be such strict regulations in place because people in general don't seem to apply reason and logic, what makes people think that authorities like the police will? They're human beings after all.

It's rather frustrating to see, yes, especially in the case of homeless people that are obviously not able to not be 'outside' (unless the police think they're part-time homeless or something???).

Also, if you have an exemption letter, and the cop tells you "anyone can write a letter" ... then why ask for it then? It's so dumb, you'd think it's a The Onion article!!

Recently, there has been some children's birthday party with 15 children and 15 adults to go along with them. We are already in lockdown in Germany and even tighter curfews are in the politician's minds because the numbers don't seem to be getting lower.

It's also in the talks that the 6-week summer holidays are getting shortened so that the children can catch up with their online lessons, but that also gained massive critique from parents because they have so much to do with their children at home and blabla, so they can't also "take away" the holidays. And what would they be doing in their holidays anyway? Not sit in front of the computers all day but rather in front of the TV because you can't leave your house anyway? 🤦🏻‍♂️ I think that their (online) education should be more important than the fact that their online lessons are being cut shorter due to not also reducing the holidays, because hardly anybody is actually concerned with school (as you can see by the grade averages in general dropping, apparently) and now they're sitting in front of their PCs for way longer than they should already, which most children don't see as a "work environment". They could spread it out more, but no, the children need their holidays.

We also have debates about this locally, nobody (even specialists) seem to agree.

About shortening holidays and restrict the curfew even further? Well, why don't they agree?

Some local experts are saying the kids need the spring break and summer vacations to relieve the stress, others are arguing the kids need to be in class because it's where they build their social skills and identity and being sequestered home is detrimental to their growth, and others are arguing about the education delay the kids are now stuck in and that we show focus on education as much as possible so they can catch up.

BTW, those aren't my opinions, but the arguments we're hearing locally when this is discussed.

they are all different opinions, both can be true and wrong, in my prospective whatever goes outside of math is paper for the asshole

imao the problem is mainly economic, and in part a social one

by cutting down on school, you will have a good porportion of people mad, because they do have no money in, like the hundreds of useless books edition that will not sell as before, or those scholastic objects that student needed (or better, they needed them, because the school wanted them) so stationary are also affected, or even restaurants/bars, transports, in short there is a ton of buisness that doesn't like the fact that the school are doing stuff online, because of doing so they will not have anymore "their" money

this whole situation is like seeing a bunch of luddites

I’ll actually have easy access to the Moderna vaccine because some locations at my work with pharmacies have it and are giving it to the pharmacy workers. I’m next in line to get it as part of the  1B group.

Its sad but there has been a war on the poor and homeless people for a long time in the US. We need to find a better solution for them. One of the issues is a lot of homeless people suffer from mental illness and it seems at least in the US, society doesn't believe in mental health.

Well, considering Gen Z went to public school and many of them have no social skills. Id say it could go either way.

Yeah this was being discussed some, that many kids have a hard time with distance learning. To be fair, I think high school and MAYBE middle school could be done online, but not K-6. I think the big issues is the parents are always available or they are lazy POS's. My sister for instance has the fortune of being able to work from home which means she can help them with their homework. But some parents dont have the ability. Some of us actually have to go in to work each day.

I think you can add the teachers in to that statement as well. They need time to decompress. Sadly too many parents treat teachers as "nanny's, or babysitters". So I figure the teachers relive a lot of stress during the summer. Some also work summer jobs, because you cant make it on a teachers salary now days.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Note that they say they aren't conspiracy theorists or science deniers, but against the curfew on a civil liberties (and common sense) basis.

This is disappointing! Siri is suggesting a fake news, conspiracy ridden and unencrypted site about vitamin C as a Covid-19 treatment.

The thing is I tried taking vitamin C in huge doses whenever I get a cold or cough back in college and it doesn't work. It didn't shortened the symptoms nor improved it. If these people think vitamin C can cure something as serious as Covid-19, why is it doesn't work on something as simple as common colds or the seasonal flu? These people can spew shit like "it's the cure your doctor doesn't want you to know because big pharma 🙄", and yet people all over the world are taking vitamin C and they still develop colds and flu. Hence, it doesn't work.

Well yeah because your kidneys filter it all out and then you get expensive urine. Hence why it does nothing, there’s limits to how much vitamins you can uptake

Not to mention that people taking megadoses of vitamin C can put themselves at risk for developing oxalate kidney stones. Also, many of the unscrupulous supplement manufacturers are putting way too much vitamin C on many of their herbal juices, it can actually dissolve one’s teeth, leading to dental caries.

Or people take zinc supplements which can cause you to lose your taste!

People don’t understand the dangers.

By the way, how effective are surgical mask against cov cov? Since I feel like when I breathe in, the air I breathe is majorly from the open gap beside my nose anyways

Studies I can find forces air and particles through the mask material, but not while wearing it as normal

Surgical masks as well as the likes of KN95 (not the same as with 3M’s N95 respirator mask) doesn’t provide complete protection from the airborne virus, but it prevents a person getting infected from respiratory droplets which is still the best way to to get infected with COVID-19. Moreover, wearing a mask protects other people from getting infected because it prevents respiratory droplets from talking, coughing or sneezing to get into the air. That’s why masks with valves are not good in preventing the spread of infection.

So they say it'll have to fit but so far none of the surgical mask I use prevents my glasses from fogging up, and I don't think that's feasible because of how loosely it sits on my face

Thus why my concern

I had the same concern in the early months of the pandemic around March-April but then I got myself prescription contact lenses. It's a bit of work to put and remove than glasses but at least now I can see better even with a mask and a face shield on. Though I admit I still prefer my glasses.

Yeah but it makes me question the effective of the masks

I mean of course diverting the airflow to the sides is better than directly in front where your conversation partner is most likely at, but the virus is still airborne no?
