Will a powerline adapter increase my internet speeds?

Hello! I am having trouble with internet speeds because my old router is capping my new router at 24mbps due to the fact that I plugged my old ethernet cable into the WAN port. Would a powerline adapter stop my new router from capping at 24mgps? My new router is the ASUS AC1900.

That doesn't really make any sense unless you're using an ancient relic like a WRT54G

my old router is from a company called Windstream. They said it's the latest and best router but research later said it's 4-5 years old.

If the modem you're getting the internet from is capped, how is changing out anything else going to increase speed?

You're basically asking to increase the amount of water coming out of a tap by attaching things to the end of the tap. That doesn't increase the amount of water coming out.

Windstream WiFi Modem T3200. We pay for 25mgps

If you pay for 25 Mbps, and you get 24Mbps, then no. There is no legal way to get a faster internet speed. Powerline adapters are designed to allow two devices to communicate between each other on a LOCAL network. You can't just plug one into an outlet and get internet from it.

What you are likely referring to is that you have a Modem/Router from Windstream and have a Asus 1900C connected to it. What you typically have to do is to force the Modem/Router into bridged Mode so your not double-NATting your traffic.

 

This should disable the router portion of the Modem/Router making it just a Modem.

 

It may not fix your issues, however, if the modem is not capable of the higher speeds

If it is rated at 25 and you are getting 24 that may be as good as it gets. I have a 50Mbps down/10Mbps Up vDSL connection but due to the distance from the node and quality of the "last mile" local-loop I usually only get 35-40Mbps down.

OK - So your modem/router supports up to 1Gbps and is a vDSL modem/router.

 

Google "Windstream T3200 Bridged Mode" for instructions on how to disable the router functionality and use your Asus 1900C as the router.

 

Hint: You will need the PPPoE userid and password from the Windstream to add to the Asus in order to get this to work and will likely want to connect directly with a laptop to the Windstream to get this to work properly

If you're referring to the thing you get internet from your isp from, no.

That actually sounds like a really high-end router seeing as they are claiming it capable of bonding and expansion for g.FAST/PON use.

You are merely getting the speed you pay for.  On DSL getting 24Mbit out of a 25Mbit connection is actually really good, you often lose much more than that in overheads.
