Volume on call constantly going up and down

I have a friend with an s20, and when on speaker the volume for both people on the call constantly alternates between almost to low to hear and normal. When not on speaker this problem is fixed for both people. It is only on 1 phone and all other calls on other phones are fine. I do not believe this is a internet problem. It is also consistent over multiple calling apps (like phone and messenger, Skype ect). This may just be a problem with the phone, and it may need to be taken back but just checking here before doing that.

Have your friend call you and both on speaker when he is home.

Ensure both of you are stationary in terms of distance away from the phone, and to speak at the phone, while facing the phone

Does it still happen?

Awareness is key. Never enough, even in the face of futility. Speak the truth as if you may never get to say it again. This world is full of ugly. Change it they say. The only way is to reveal the ugly. To change the truth you must first acknowledge it. Never pretend it isn't there. Never bend the knee.

Is it on Wi-Fi when this occurs and is Wi-Fi calling on? Depending on the signal and a multitude of other factors, a Wi-Fi call can either be crystal clear or like thick as mud. Turn it off and try again.

Also, turn off HD Voice and restart the phone then try the phone call again. HD Voice sometimes throws calls for a loop if both connections aren't ideal.

And of course try what @huilun02 said as well and report back.
