Low FPS with gta 5

Djsefru

Hey guys for the life of me I can’t run gta 5 at 60fps. I can only get between 20-30fps. I’ve tried everything. Even if I run the game on normal settings and my vram bar is in the green I still can only get to 40 max and it still drops to 30fps in the city areas. Here are my specs.

Intel core i5-4590 3.30ghz

Nvidia GeForce GT 740 (2gb)

16g Memory

Asus H97m-E Motherboard

Windows 10 Pro

Is this setup able to run at least 60fps? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

Your standout issue is your GPU. It's too weak to run GTAv at 60FPS (unless turned down to the absolute lowest settings). You will likely need to do a GPU upgrade, and the PSU you have will be the ultimate determing factor in how powerful of a GPU you can actually get.

Do you have a pre built, or is it a custom made PC?

Ohh Okay I see. I will have to do an upgrade and see how it performs then :) It’s a custom built pc. Sorry I’m new to the pc world what is PSU?

Sorry just realised what psu is. It’s 500w.

what would you recommend me getting? And also, just to clarify, even tho I’m only using about 1.4g of vram, it’s still not powerful enough to run at 60fps?

A GT 740 is just not gonna make it if you want any kind of decent graphics. GTA V is very nicely optimized and you can definitely run it at "playable" fps with very low settings but that's up to you. A 500W psu is perfectly fine for a decent low-mid range gpu like GTX 1650 or even a 1660ti. Just make sure the psu has some kind of 80+ rating(highly recommended) or atleast isn't from some sketchy brand.
