Apple this week officially started selling replacement kits for Mac Pro feet and wheels. Now, our first look at the $700 Mac Pro Wheels Kit in the wild has emerged. Head below for a close-up look at what you get for that price. Images posted to Weibo today show the Mac Pro Wheels Kit in all of its glory. Included in the box are the four wheels alongside a 1/4-inch to 4 mm hex bit. Apple warns that “additional tools are necessary” for actually installing the wheels on your Mac Pro.

This is Apple’s elevator pitch for the Mac Pro Wheels Kit:

Put your Mac Pro on wheels with the Mac Pro Wheels Kit. The custom-designed stainless steel and rubber wheels make it easy to move your Mac Pro around, whether sliding it out from under your desk or across your studio. Installation required. A 1/4-inch to 4 mm hex bit is included, but additional tools are necessary. Replacing the Mac Pro feet with wheels adds approximately one inch to the height of the frame.

Don’t forget that Apple is selling a new Mac Pro Feet Kit as well, which sets you back a much more reasonable (?) $300. You can order the new Mac Pro Wheels Kit on Apple’s website now. If you have any money left for expedited shipping, you can get your order as soon as April 22.

I think at this point it's more of a flex that anything else. I realise studios are willing to pay big bucks for equipment that works nicely but $700 for wheels is really pushing it imo. Especially once you start looking at a suite of wheels for all your studio Mac Pros. I'm sure third party ones are available which will work just as well.

That's an F in the profile pic

They are turning it back into a fashion thing.    There are two ways to sell a product, 1 as a product that sells based on it's inherent worth and 2. one that sells on its image.  Apple became what they are on image, their entire marketing strategy was to make the iPhone as much a fashion accessory as anything, the item everyone wanted.  there is a very distinct reason they maintained a very narrow selection of colors and lines.  Now the pc market space is saturated and the only thing they can offer to set themselves apart from everyone is is to be the louis vuitton of tech.   Those runway dresses aren't worth $15K and you can;t were them tot he ball, but they sell because eccentric collectors have to be A list.  This is the same thing for the hipster who has most of his image but wants to tip it over the edge in the office.   We've already established that you can buy an equally powerful unit with all the same warranties and guarantees for much less.   Which means if they don;t make it a fashion statement then the only people who will buy it are the people who refuse to let go of mac software instead electing to pay the premium.

let me guess, it's a completely propriety connection that you cannot just use something like regular castors for.

I don't know what is worse, this or their $300 picture book

Locks are an additional purchase but aren't included because brave users don't need them. They also halt the progress of machines!

You can purchase Apple brakes and stop the progress of your machine for the low price of $99,999.98

The only reason they make things at such absurd price is because they know people will buy them. If they made such items and they'd sell ZERO of them, you can be sure they'd not try it again.

I pay just over 800 bucks for a set of all terrain tiers for my truck, which includes life time balance and rotating as well as repairs. If these wheels from Apple are so expensive, they better be able to compete with BFGoodrich T/A KO2's or Hoosier Drag Slicks.

What I'm wondering is how anyone could possibly defend Apple for selling 700$ set of wheels. I get that the machine itself is considered an expensive luxury item, so accessories being super expensive don't matter much in the grand scheme of things... but God damn.

Does it use a proprietary mechanism as well? So that you can't just go out and buy any other regular set of wheels from the home hardware store?
