What peice of hardware is my virus on?

Josh_Disastr

I assume that computer viruses usually are stored on your hard drive meaning that assuming toy don't care about the data you could just swap the drive reinstall an o.s. and be back operational. Is that true?

Yes, but in 99% of cases they care about the data you have so drives other than the boot drive are also affected.

I understand the joke, but a comment like that may confuse newbies, who may take it seriously. Considering viruses are a nasty thing and all, I'd say it's better just not to joke like that when talking to them.

That is by and large true, unless you get something pre-built (like a Lenovo system) where the "virus" lives in BIOS, so a wipe and re-install doesn't solve the issue (google Superfish for a more detailed discussion)

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

but that's not even funny, it seems like you're just trolling the OP who might not know much about computers. This is a forum, not some shitposting site. If you're making a joke at least have a \s or have a PS: I'm joking, here's some help.

If that's what you find humorous you have a shit sense of humor, ngl.

Follow up question. Can I then just have 2 hard drives 1 with my real stuff on it and one with just an o.s. and just turn it off and switch drives depending on what I want to do?
