Want to upgrade from my fx 8320

I've decided that i should finally upgrade my computer. Some of the usb ports are acting up and not having sata 3 along with other things is getting old. Im trying to not spend all that much for most games i play are fine with what i have now. What would u guys recommend i upgrade to?  Or would just buying a newer mobo be the better idea?

Buying a new CPU and Mobo would be a great idea. Since upgrading just the mobo won't help that much in performance anyway. Do you have a set budget?

not particularly, but would like to spend as little as needed.

I believe you have the GTX 970. If so, the Ryzen 5 1600 will be a good CPU for your GPU. Since the GPU is older now, you dont want to be bottle-necking it too much.

CPU: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Ryzen-1600-Desktop-CPU/dp/B06XNRQHG4/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ryzen+5+1600&qid=1586725746&sr=8-3

Mobo: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-B450M-PRO-M2-MAX-Motherboard/dp/B07W838JXD/ref=sr_1_22?dchild=1&keywords=b450&qid=1586725826&sr=8-22

Let me know if this is alright, or something a bit cheaper?

PS: Love the first 3 games there mate 😂👍

Thanks for the recommendation. It looks like a fx-8320 sells for the same price of a 1600. That makes no sense, but hey im not going to complain.

And the MOBOs are still expensive for the AM3, i might end up only out like 90$

If you don't mind a small bottleneck, the Ryzen 5 2600/X is great. But again, your GPU is going to show its age with it. But second gen would be the highest for a 970. Third gen would leave the 970 in its shadow.

Im thinking about getting a new gpu at some point so im fine with future proofing my pc

Go for am4 and 3700x.

GTA and some of the things you mentioned are very CPU dependant. By doing this you're going to be future proof for years

Intel i5-4460,Sapphire Nitro R9 390 8GB, 8GB RAM @ 1866Mhz, 120GB SSD + 1,5TB HDD, Asrock H81M-HDS, Fortron hyper 600w

That is going to severely bottleneck his GPU right now. If he thinks of upgrading his GPU soon, go for it or the 3600x if it sounds better for the budget. But if he wants to wait a while before an upgrade, don't get such an overpowering CPU.

I agree on the future proofing, but except for the 3D rendering, the rest is more GPU dependant.
