Msi Afterburner not working

So I have a laptop, a Lenovo Legion Y520 with a GTX1050 graphics card but I'm unable to change the fan speed whilist using the app, is it because it's a laptop?

I would say yes it’s because it’s a laptop, a lot of laptops have a locked bios that controls fan curves, and hence the reason why you can’t change voltage either

I would've gotten a PC but I need my laptop for school and university because I can actually carry it, altough it's heavy as fuck.

It can happen on PC's also!

You would have to look into BIOS for that as the GPU itself does not have it's own fan. Your laptop has 2 fans controlled via CPU load and motherboard sensors.
