Graphics card recommended for 4k

AlexHaze

Hi.  New to the forum.  Hello All.

Quick questions.

Just purchased a samsung 4k qled tv for gaming and to watch movies (Q90R).  It was on sale, was considering OLED from LG but got the Samsung for 1100 Euros.

I currently run a i7 6700k with a GTX 1070 paired with an ASUS pg278q.  (2k)

I know I need a new graphics card to run games on the 4k TV, but wasn´t really planning on changing the entire system.

Would an RTX 2080 super be enough ot should I go for the 2080ti?

Would the I7 6700k seriously bottleneck any of those graphic cards?

Thanks in advance.  And stay indoors.

First buy GPU. Then you can check is your CPU bottleneck (probably no in most cases). Then you probably figure out that even 2080Ti may be not enough for 4k in high details @ 60 fps.

You can wait for NVidia 3xxx serie.

I can wait for the 3xxx, does the 2080ti struggle to keep 60fps?

An RTX 2070 Super should do 4k also as long as the surrounding hardware doesn't bottleneck.

It might on some games if you push the graphics to the max.

You can game at 1440p or 1800p on a 4k TV and it'll look great...

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 2 VR

I use an OLED TV as a monitor and on it one of the best features is the quality of the 1440p output.

It is even better than my dedicated 1440p monitors considering the size.

I am a 4k snob that thinks 1440p is low res but I like 1440p on high end TVs.

Try running at 1440p before you upgrade.

My i7 6700k was fine for 4k with a GTX 1080 ti(= 2080). It did suffer a bit at lower resolutions. I replaced it with a 6 core for gaming since it is a lot smoother experience.

I have 2080 tis and I would not pair one with a i7 6700k. They like high IPC so at a minimum I would only use a i7 8700k or a R5 3600X.

The only CPU I would buy for one needs to be 5ghz plus.

Thanks for all the answers.  Like always when u ask something in a forum u get 5 different answers.   🤔

I think I´ll stick with the GTX 1070 for now and play at 2k (didnt think about lowering res) and wait for the RTX 3XXX or whatever AMD comes out with.

I have a long ass HDMI from my PC to my TV (15 meters) will this create some kind of lagg?

If you have the right cable, probably not. Since you got that new tv, I'd recommend getting a VR headset to. It's only the perfect fit. (If budget allows)
