3700x vs 3800x

I know that 3800x has a bigger tdp so more overclocking headroom but about how much better of an overclock can you get on the 3800x vs 3700x or is the extra tdp just Linus's bathroom jokes?

if you oc r7 3700x you will get r7 3800x.

 

you cannot really get much better overclock with r7 3800x. the r7 3700x it just much better value of money.

You're just paying for better binning. TDP means nothing since when you're overclocking you're also upping power consumption.

Not really. If money isn't a problem get a 3900x. Might as well get a performance boost if you want to spend more money.

No real point of getting that many cores, but I see your point go either 3700x or 3900x. Still was planning to go for 3700x before I remembered the 3800x existed anyway.

It really depends on the price difference. For 20 more usd id go 3800x. More then that probably isnt worth it. Actual real world difference is negligible.  I think in most games youre looking at 1 or 2 fps.

I overclocked my 3800x to 4.475 GHz at 1.35v. This is considered winning the lottery which is less likely with the 3700x. I couldn't get anything stable on the 3700x past 4.2ghz all core.
