Our Lord and Savior GabeN responds to the VAC updates

In response to the recent updates to Valve's anti-cheat program (VAC), Gabe Newell has created a post in the r/gaming subreddit of reddit.com

 

Gabe begins with some rationale in regards to trust. 

 

 

Trust is a critical part of a multiplayer game community - trust in the developer, trust in the system, and trust in the other players.

 

 

Our Lord and Savior then continues on to explain how cheats are negative to the overall gameplay experience and how many different individuals try to sell their cheats and hacks to the community. 

 

He also explains in layman's terms how VAC works and how the "raging war" in terms of cheats goes on between hackers and Valve. 

 

To conclude the article, Gabe answers three questions that everybody is asking. 

 

 

1) Do we send your browsing history to Valve? No.

2) Do we care what porn sites you visit? Oh, dear god, no. My brain just melted.
3) Is Valve using its market success to go evil? I don't think so, but you have to make the call if we are trustworthy. We try really hard to earn and keep your trust.

 

The reasoning behind this update to VAC seems to make more sense now, and I'm glad our Lord and Valve are being transparent about this. Steam is still a fantastic platform for distributing games and I will continue to trust it, at least, until another potential security issue arises.

 

What do you think about this new update and Gabe's response? I'm just glad only the NSA has a complete history of my web browsing.

I trust what there doing. Every other site takes all my information what will it matter of 1 more starts doing it. If it improves steam im happy to help xD

it made sense from the beginning, vac bans 1000 players, who all happened to go to the same domain, valvehacks.fake then they can monitor that site and ban any future hack tools that site posts, at least that was my thinking behind the update

to be honest, i've been thinking of having a case hardened style ak commissioned, and brought to my lord and savior on his birthday, in a special bravo case as well.

 

he owes me fucking 2.50 for a god damn key though.

I would hate to rain on this Gabe parade but Gabe is doing what he is supposed to be doing. A CEO is there to do one thing; make the company money specifically for the owners. Gabe has provided an adequate response for the companies audience but if you think that the potential information or information that has already been collected by this type of technology has no value then you must be kidding yourself.
