Ryzen 5 1600 AF won't post on a B450 ASRock board

Hi everyone, just bought myself a Ryzen 5 1600 AF (12nm model) and it doesn't give me a post on a ASRock B450 Steel Legend. It runs for about 20 seconds with all the rgb and fans spinning then shuts itself down and runs again (quite funny loop but not what I was expecting 馃槀)

Tried literally everything that has gotten to my mind:

1. Checked all the memory sticks in both single channel and dual (G.Skill Ripjaws 3200 8gb models)

2. Updated BIOS to 3.2 and cleared CMOS with 1600 AF installed (3.2 BIOS is listed as a must for 1600 AF model on ASRock CPU compatibility table)

3. Checked all the power connectors and the power supply is Corsair CX750, so quite enough for a combo with 1070 EVGA

4. Tested the mobo with R3 1200 that I had previously and it worked perfect with both stable 3.9 OC and memory at 3.0 GHz with 16 timings

Does anyone have ideas regarding this problem and should I just return CPU to the shop and go for 5 3600 with some more savings 馃檭馃檭馃檭?

That's the thing the latest BIOS is the one that supports 1600 AF (version 3.2)image.thumb.png.7928daac1d772950526ebf959f3917ca.png

No, board does not have display for post codes and haven't heard any beeps either

It tries to boot and after a failed boot tries to do it again for unlimited number of times

Officical website is listing 3.2 as a must for compatibility with 1600 AF (see screenshot)

And before updating it also tried to boot on 2.6 version with the same result

Odd that it states on the BIOS page to not use that with Pinnacle architecture. Wouldn't hurt giving it a shot. Sucks there's no clear answer.

Would it be ok to downgrade from 3.2 to 2.63B?

I saw that downgrading to 2.6 and lower after upgrading to 2.63B is impossible but don't see anything regarding higher versions

I wouldn't see it being a issue at all. It doesn't state it's a issue downgrading from 3.2. But it does on other versions like you said.聽

Hoping it works. Trouble shooting can be frustrating and rewarding at the same time. Then at the end you feel like you could write a book about the shit you learned.聽

And it still doesn't work at all, tried all the bios versions from 2.63B up to 3.2 and none of those helped

That's quite and interesting troubleshoot

You definitely need to be on 2.63B. Flash 2.63B then pull the CMOS battery for 20 seconds.聽

Also, make sure all the power connections are tight. I know,聽 "but I already checked that". Check it again. Shove that 24 pin connector into that motherboard hard. Put some force on everything. Make 110 percent sure none of it is loose.聽

Again another big one that would do this: Make sure you GPU is actually in the Pci-e slot. Shove it in hard.聽

MoBo is not available to return due to outdated warranty period, so either will try r5 2600 on it or resell it. The weirdest thing is that r3 1200 is working properly with almost max overclock and with quite not so small memo overclock too

Yeah, I know, I checked everything properly enormous margin of times聽and today tried with 2.63B and clearing the board with both clrcmos pins and battery removal.

GPU and Pci-e slot are also quite fine because the pc is working and the only difference in config between two states is different processors聽

Yes, but why does it say that? ASRock is pretty clear they don't want people to update BIOS unless necessary. If you're running those architectures, (aside from the AF), you don't need to.

Bring it up to latest BIOS, no matter what CPU you are using. Downgrading BIOS's gets a little bit weird, and I'd highly NOT recommend that.

Have you tested the AF in another motherboard?

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Fedora 38 x86_64

Secondary: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Fedora 38 x86_64

Server: AMD Athlon PRO 3125GE, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 ECC, TrueNAS Core 13.0-U5.1

Home Laptop: Intel Core i5-L16G7, 8 GB 4267 MHz LPDDR4x, Windows 11 Home 22H2 x86_64

Work Laptop: Intel Core i7-10510U, NVIDIA Quadro P520, 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 x86_64

I'm actually thinking the AF may be the issue as well if the 1200 is working fine.聽

I guess grab a magnifying glass and see if there are any bent pins.聽

If not, I'm stumped as well. Guess you would need to test another motherboard with the 1600AF or another 1600AF in the motherboard. I'd probably just RMA聽 the 1600AF if you can and see if that fixes it.聽

Nope, no bent pins whatsoever, rather r3 1200 was a bit bent after rather harsh removal together with a CPu tower but I got it fixed and it's working properly
