Apple quietly updates the iPad Pro

Specs: 

  • SoC: A12Z Bionic with 8c GPU, Neural Enginem M12 motion coprocessor, and secure enclave
  • Display: IPS LCD display which Apple calls Liquod Retina (P3 color gamut, 120 Hz variable refresh rate, True Tone, fully la,inated with antireflective coating, up to 600 nits brightness)
  • Resolution: 2388 x 1668 for 11”, 2732 x 2048 for 12.9” 
  • Cameras: 1 wide 12 MP camera with f/1.8 aperture, and a 10 MP, f/2.4 aperture ultra wide with 125 degree fov, 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom, TrueDepth Camera: 7 MP photos, f/2.2 aperture
  • Microphones: five microphones
  • Wireless: supports 802.11 ax WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5, cellular models support LTE
  • Security: Face ID authentication 
  • Battery: 11” has 28.65 Wh Li-polymer battery, 12.9” has 36.71 Wh Li-polymer battery which Apple claims both to achieve 10 hours of wireless web or watching videos on wifi, up to 9 hours of surfing or watching video on LTE
  • Now supports a mouse cursor 
  • wifi only starts at $799 for the 128 GB wifi only 11” model, $899 for 256 GB, $1099 for 512 GB and $1299 for the 1TB, for the cellular model, you have to add $150 on top 
  • 12.9” wifi only model starts at a whopping $999 for 128 GB, $1099 for 256 GB, $1299 for 512 GB, and $1499 for 1TB, for the cellular variant just add $150 on top
  • The 2nd gen magic keyboard sells at $300 for the 11”, $350 for the 12.9”. Both keyboards now comes with a trackpad to do similar macOS gestures. So Apple decided to quietly launching their new iPad instead of waiting for their online only WWDC 2020. It looks a lot like the 2018 iPad Pro other than the ugly camera bump on the rear. Personally I’m still happy with my 2018 9.7” iPad but thankfully the base model now starts at 128 GB.

$300-350 for the keyboard? Apple pls

 

Oh, and is the pencil still a $180 separate purchase?

 

Imagine spending $1000 on this and being unable to access half of the advertised features without spending another 50% of that.

The Pencil is $129... still not cheap, but definitely easier to swallow.

 

I look at it this way: if an iPad Pro does what you want and you fully intend it to be your only portable computer, that keyboard is fine.  Logitech also unveiled its own keyboard/trackpad cases for the base iPad and iPad Air that cost half as much, as it is, so you can spend a lot less if you just want an iPad with a trackpad.

Yes, but at that price point it's hilariously underpowered. The base model should have a quad core. Top end models could definitely fit a dGPU in there if they can't get a more powerful CPU in there (though if they really wanted to they could definitely cool a quad core H chip).

If you're spending $1k on a tablet that's supposed to be a laptop replacement it should really come with the keyboard in the box. Arguably the pencil too since it's one of the major advertised features which they claim makes it worth the asking price. Third party options or not you're still spending at least another $200 to access the features Apple shows off.

1. what is the price difference between 3rd and 4th gen. 
2. The difference between the 3rd and 4th gen on specs are 
   - new cpu A12Z ( rocking a 8 core processor)( rocking is a imitation of linus)
   - uses a new smart keyboard which has a mousepad
   - triple lens which has the same function as the iphone11 pro
   - the new 4th gen is heavier a bit ( around 10 g ) 
other than that, all are the same with the previous gen of ipadpro

get a 4th gen or 3rd gen?

I felt like the OP didn't explain what the differences between the old and new iPad Pro model were, so I looked it up myself.

 

The new one has:

128GB of storage on the lowest end model (up from 64GB).

Upgraded SoC (A12Z instead of A12X, whatever that means).

New cameras (three cameras including ultrawide and zoom, compared to the old which only had a one regular camera)

WiFi 6 (up from WiFi 5)

Slightly smaller battery on the 11" model (just ~2,5% smaller but still)

 

Some new accessories and iPad OS features. I think that's about it.

does this mean you can finally use a mouse with the iPad?

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 years later: It's finally coming!!!

I'm looking forward to see what developers can do with the new sensors and power in the iPad. 

 

That i5 rMBA with 16GB RAM looks like the perfect upgrade for me.

Same price as the old one used to be. (of cource the older ones are now cheaper, that might depend on your region as to how much)

you can use the new keybaord with the 3rd check.

the 4th gen also has the time of flight sensor (not a bid deal for 99.9999% of users

 

I would say unless you need to CPU power get the 3rd gen you can use the new keyboard with it if you want.

From iOS 13.0 you could use a mouse  (with any iPad or iPhone) it just was hidden in the accessibly settings. This update changes that so that when you connect a mound and move it a cursor appears (no playing with the accessibly settings)

Is this display the exactly the same as the 2018 model? as in 600 nits of brightness.

trying to compare the two models pretty sure its just the new camera and processor that are different.
