It's the whole 'Free Tier' part. I looked it up, and I'm pretty sure that once you've upgraded to 'Paid Tier' that limitation is removed.

Here's a link to Google's page on the 'Free Tier': https://cloud.google.com/free/docs/gcp-free-tier#how-to-upgrade

Ok, seems like your probably right. Are you gonna try it? I mean like in the next couple of days? I don't want to take the risk as everything is working right now and I don't want to waist PPD in trying to convert, when I don't know if it will work the way I want it to, but I'd be very interested in hearing from you once you've tried it.

I'm pretty sure they would just start charging your card instead of your credit.

Like I said, will keep y'all updated on that.

also in the tutorial "The free plan does not include GPU Compute. Trying to create a slot with a GPU will result in an error. Therefore: At the top of the page there should be a banner with a gift box. Click on upgrade and upgrade your account to a payed one. Dont fear you will only pay when going over the free budget. As mentioned above, simply be smart and terminate the machines in time. If you do this you wont have to pay anything :)"

I owe 25.86 cause I went over on my first one.

I did the same thing, sometimes it takes too damn long to update the billing page.

I use AWS myself. I have it setup with Auto Scaling Groups where it would delete the instance when the server can't find any WUs by monitoring hw usage through CloudWatch and use my custom AMI with Folding autostart on boot and all my configuration set already set. I haven't had any time to figure out how to make it start automatically and at what interval.

Awesome. That's a nice way to go. Here's a container solution if you want to go that route: https://github.com/raykrueger/FoldingOnECS

I hate the billing page.

Yep, I have no clue about the actual billing right, now just going by my own calculations of usage time and price per hour. I've also had to make sure that I don't include the 30% price reduction you get after a number of hours cause that can bite you in the end.

Please do not openly commit to violating the Google Cloud TOS and exploiting the free credit offer.

I used up two accounts of free credit long time ago and when I made a third one, they wouldn't let me get a gpu.

Wait you are directing that at me? I openly tell them when requesting a quota of 2 GPUs what I will be doing. They gave permission. And why point that at me when there is literally a guide on here. Many others on here are saying the same thing.

nono, what I mean it's not allowed to create multiple accounts under same name and then using that bonus multiple times. They better not know about that. https://cloud.google.com/terms/free-trial/

Well since it's clearly against their free trial TOS that's stretching the limits and them being really nice about it, to a degree. https://cloud.google.com/terms/free-trial/

Basically only new users are eligible for the 300 $ free credit, with same billing information that will most likely lead to account suspension. Just making sure you are aware of that.

I'm off the forums for a bit I don't need this.

What? The people who are using "free credit" to pad their stats?

Personally, I think violating the TOS of another company to get your stats higher in a competition on here, should get one immediately disqualified from said competition.

It's an unfair/unethical advantage.

Unlikely to carry any water. If Google lets you do it, then do it. A lot of people have used it, and it's not like we're securing any kind of gain.

Are we doing this to help in the fight against COVID-19, with a bit of a fun competition on the side? Yes.

Does it come with a slightly increased chance of a better prize? Yes.

Is it something everyone with a bank account can do? Also Yes.

Will I stop before the end of the event or my credits run out? No.

Well since some of the top folders are using the ifrastructure of some datacenter they work at for folding and folding in the cloud is not prohibited...

I agree it's unethical towards Google and the other participants. You could order 2080 Tis from Amazon, fold 24/7 for 4 weeks and return used hardware within a month. You wouldn't pay a dime for that cause Amazon return policy. Is it ethical? I don't think so.
