@Gorgon

I worked out what was wrong with my ethernet link, the far end was wired with a connector using T568B but the near end was in a keystone jack using T568A... Sigh such a stupid mistake.

Do you have any kind of overclock on your system? It might be that you have some small instability and crashes Windows because of it.

This may be it. Although I've never had this sort of crashing happening with this OC while rendering video or anything which I've done on this PC for years.

What exactly does client-type: advanced do? Went from not getting any GPU WUs to constantly getting some.

F@H is stupid sensitive to OCing, to the point that even a factory OC'd card can cause issues

Sets a client preference to request late stage beta work units if available. This is only a request for a specific type of work unit, and is never a guarantee the client will received this type of work unit.  If none of these work units are available, and regular work unit will be downloaded instead.

Linux box has no firewall enabled as far as I know, and the Windows box can track 2 other Windows boxes just fine. Not sure what to do next.

Use PuTTY from windows and try to TELNET to IP of Linux Box on Port 36330. If that doesn't work then it's an issue with the remote access settings in /etc/fahclient/config.xml.

It allows you to get advanced WUs, these are WUs that are in the final stage of testing but have passed beta. In other words, you are more likely to encounter issues but there are more WUs available as you can get public branch and advanced branch WUs.

Not for reference designs generally speaking, but for say EVGA cards that have an OC, yes.

"Corrupt WU" can happen for few resons:

1. Unstable OC

2. Bad configuration in Advanced client

3. Using expert flags with unstable OC

What you are describing looks like no. 2, so I would go in Advanced Client, delete all slots and restart F@H, that should fix it. And please do not use Web Client, it's buggy AF most of the times and you have much more control and info in Advanced Client

I'm not using the advanced client because Ubuntu fahcontrol requires python-gnome2 which is not avail for 19.10.

My system is not OC'd.  I have no flags, in fact I haven't modified the config.xml at all.

My solution is to stop F@H and wait 7 days (the time allocated to process this dead WU).  I can try again next Friday.

One optimization - never use PuTTY. Use telnet or SSH which has been available in Windows for three years now. Just install the optional Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and you get native unix tools. PuTTY is a terrible experience that should have died three years ago.

Great advice except the Windows native TELNET client is broken and does not understand Unix CR/LF translations

I don't know if anyone has helped you with your issue already but to solve your issue you have delete your the corrupted WU then restart the client to get a new WU.

Yeah, 13877 is pain in arse tbh, to avoid it, I'd recommend striping all flags (advanced or beta), no other way. My R9 380's hate that WU...

Also, please use spoilers...

So, after fiddling (or rather, fighting) around with networking, Proxmox and getting the OpenCL drivers to work under Linux I finally have a rig up folding 24/7:

CPU working hard to push that info to the GPU as well:

Spoiler

Interestingly, the GPU pass-through worked flawlessly, thanks to this guide:

Now if only I could get another WU for my main GPU..

- BIG SNIP FFS-

SPOILERS FFS, PLEASE, I am begging you... 🙏

Me: Bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Classic AMD , issues with folding, issues with drivers, issues with mining , any new omega drivers ? :P

Yep, R9's with newest drivers, doing same thing on some Advanced WUs... Nothing you can do actually. I even downclocked them -50 CC and -50 MC, still happening.

That is a bad solution you got there...

Just reinstall F@H and you are good to go.

If you experience it again, try going with different Linux or just go windows (not recommended).

You can just delete the work data folder.
