LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

I replaced the thermal compound on my kids gtx 1060 6gb single fan with the last of a 13 year old Artic Silver 5 tube.  It dropped the temps by 10 degrees, I can't believe it. Amazing that the stuff lasted that long.  Now if I can send him to bed here shortly and let it get back to folding instead of playing minecraft, I will be all set.

We alrady run multiple events per year, 2-3, but you have to be aware that @Ithanul needs some time to run events for BOINC too.

Talking about that, Ithanul when is the pent?

Pentathlon is slated to begin around May 5th by what the site shows.

I would still hope to do a mini event before hand, but may not get around to that this year.

My work schedule got switch up now because of the increasing restrictions on the base I work at is doing.  Along with waiting for some info from the Guard unit I'm part of as well.  :I  Ugh, this year is such a mess for me.

:I  Was hoping to do some folding on my 1080Ti, but F@H just keeps either hangs up on downloads or spits out that it can't get anything.

Does it get too hot if you fold while he's playing?

I fold with my RTX 2080 ti while playing games like RDO and WWZ. I can only feel a little impact in RDO.

Did the same with my FE 1070 with about the same results.  Went from 90-100% fans to 1:1.  Good idea to reapply that every 3-5 years depending on temperatures and time at such.

Even eBay discount thermal compound would work better than the clay that's in place now.

lol now thats funny...i repated my oc 580 about 2 year ago as it was running HOT when i first got it and supprise supprise supprise the compound never fully compressed and was rock hard so wasn't making good contact i used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Grease Paste and dropped 20c or so...as my 5700 is running great i likely wont repaste it yet. and just bought some NT-H2 for my cpus

The plan is to do the Pent for sure once it opens up for team submission.

Sweet, got a month to prepare, if I get round to it.... otherwise manual control like last time (yay 🤪)

I'm hoping to maybe nab a better CPU for one of my X399 systems before hand.  So far, have yet to see a good deal on a 2950X.

Of course, a new hobby addition, a 3D printer, is begging for more goodies too.

Does it get too hot if you fold while he's playing?

It crushes the cpu, only an athelon 200ge.  They will upgrade to an r5 1600 just as soon as i upgrade to a 3600 or 3700 in my rig 😁
